Chicago welcomes one of their own ........



The folks that took these were in Chicago for a trade show and were leaving town just as Barack Obama was arriving and got into a terrible traffic jam.

I haven't seen this on the nightly news on any of the networks.

Right in Obama's back yard!! I'm more proud of the folks in the windy city, than I thought was ever possible! By the way, I didn't see the ABC , CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC covering this - did you? Wonder why...

How well do YOU know the parents of YOUR children's friends?

Children tend to run in packs, no matter what age. As they progress through elementary school, then on through middle school and high school, the clique mentality seems to remain intact.

They usually have a favorite hangout, where they spend most of their free time. Many times it is the home of one of the friends in the group - someone who either has lenient parents or a full fridge.

It is common to get to know each individual in your child's social circle. As parents, we want to know how they behave, if they have manners - and make a determination as to whether the child will be a good influence or a bad influence on our own child. We may be very familiar with half a dozen children, know their likes and dislikes, and be well-versed in the trials and tribulations of their young lives.

The children are safe influences, but what about their parents?

How much time is spent getting to know the parents of each of these children, though? There may be parents here and there who naturally hit it off and forge a bond of their own. These lucky parents have the opportunity to share their child's companionship and an adult friendship all at the same time. However, more often than not, our own lives are too busy to pay much attention to other adults.

Do you know what each of your child's friend's parents does for a living? How many are working moms, and how many stay home? What social circles do they belong to? What do they do in their free time? Is there one mom in the group baking cookies for the kids, while another is lost in a cloud of smoke and a bottle of tequila? Would the other parents share liquor and cigarettes with your child, or would they discourage trying such things altogether? Are the parents married? How does the father behave towards the children?

Keep your children safe by arming yourself with knowledge

Looking into the backgrounds of your children's friend's parents can be quite eye-opening. You may find just from searching through basic records who is behind on child support payments, who was busted for possessing drugs or contributing to the delinquency of a minor, or whose home is being foreclosed. Search the neighborhood for any sexual predators residing in the area. You may rethink your child's walk home from school.

Having this basic information helps you make educated decisions about where to allow your child to spend his or her spare time. It will help you determine whether you are comfortable with everyone hanging out at Chuck's house, or if you would prefer they not spend time at John's house unless his mother is home.

Good vision in a downpour Cruise Control information

I received this in an Email the other day, some I knew but had forgotten, but it is good advice, especially in this weather and the weather coming up .............

How to achieve good vision while driving during a heavy downpour.

We are not sure why it is so effective; just try this method when it rains heavily.

This method was told by a Police friend who had experienced and confirmed it.

It is useful...even driving at night.

Most of the motorists would turn on HIGH or FASTEST SPEED of the wipers during heavy downpour, yet the visibility in front of the windshield is still bad......

In the event you face such a situation, just try your SUN GLASSES (any model will do), and miracle! All of a sudden, your visibility in front of your windshield is perfectly clear, as if there is no rain.

Make sure you always have a pair of SUN GLASSES in your car, as you are not only helping yourself to drive safely with good vision, but also might save your friend's life by giving him this idea..

Try it yourself and share it with your friends!??? Amazing, you still see the drops on the windshield, but not the sheet of rain falling.?

You can see where the rain bounces off the road.? It works to eliminate
the "blindness" from passing semi's spraying you too.?

Or the "kickup" if you are following a semi or car in the rain.?

They ought to teach that little tip in driver's training.. It really does work.

I wonder how many people know about this


A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car.

A resident of Kilgore, Texas she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!

When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know -
NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON.
She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain..

But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.

The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed - but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.

The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.

Be sure to recommend this to everyone you know, YOU might save a life.

Tiger Woods .....

I wonder how many "people" should be in rehab with him. If you have to have an "addiction," what a great one to have.

The "urge" to reproduce was instilled in the human body, perhaps some, more than others. My guess is he was watched like a hawk. He ate golf, slept golf, studied golf, dreamed golf, golf was his way of life. I am sure that his family, Mother and especially Father, structured his life.

There are all sorts of "addictions." His happened to be cohabitating with the opposite sex.

The bad news, it happened to ............... TIGER WOODS..................!

His image was "godlike." He was near perfection on the golf course, and everyone expected his life to be the same. It was, except for that darned addiction he had. Well the addiction itself wasn't bad, till he got caught, and it was announced to the world in a sensational news item, car wreck, golf club, broken window, the body on the ground, the man who represented Buick, driving a Cadillac, the scars, it was sensational.

That same night, that same scenario was probably duplicated many times around the world, but the one we heard about, Tiger Woods.

Now, the consequences, wife leaving him, children taken from him, millions in a settlement, sensational stuff.

The earthquake in Haiti took some of the spotlight off of him. Events have a domino effect, one goes down right after the other.

He was not hooked on alcohol, didn't like men, no drugs, not a wife beater, not a child molester, no porno accusations, so many things out there that are really disgusting. He chose "extra marital affairs," which has always been one of the more popular vices.

He is still the world's best golfer, and obviously a "multi tasker." I can't imagine anyone shrinking back from him, thinking, "Oh, he had affairs!"

I hope he comes back to the golf course, golf needs him. I don't think Mother's will be dragging their children back, "Keep away from him, he likes women."

In England the odds are going down on his appearing in The Masters. I hope he shows up. The men will applaud him for his golfing ability, the women will wonder, well, I will leave that up to your imagination, the children won't care, and the PGA golfers will be depressed, "Tiger is here, what does second pay?"

On the other side, the corporate headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company here in Newark, Ohio. I met Dave Longaberger and spoke with him on a number of occasions, a very nice man. I watched this being constructed, very unique.

Tahoe, beautiful, and I worked up there in the 50's and early 60's, before it got so commercialized. It was rustic beauty, and in those days we had it to ourselves. A narrow two-lane ran around the lake.

I trained and worked for Lincoln Fitzgerald at the Nevada Club. He was an icon in the industry, ran a warm friendly casino, was innovative, and took good care of his employees. He and the Nevada Club are all gone now, a BIG part of Nevada history that has been forgotten.

The Reno Arch as it was in the 50's, walked under this many, many times.

I got an email the other day from a reader. He had never heard of soaking his razor in Olive Oil and wanted more information.

The history on it, simple, my Dad always coated his straight razor with Olive Oil after he used it. He had a double razor strop. As I recall, one was of a canvas-like material and the other a soft leather. He used the canvas one first, and it was even stained from the oil. He would clean the razor on that one and then sharpen with the soft leather one.

The strop hung from a hook next to the sink in the bathroom, and I can still see him taking that razor out of a small case, carefully open it, and start stropping the razor on the first strop, then on the leather one, and then he would start shaving.

I tried his straight razor a few times, too many cuts. In those days I used the old Gillette double sided Blue Blade. I was in college then, and I had an old shaving mug that I kept the Olive Oil in, and after shaving I would loosen the blade a little and put it in the oil.

My roommate saw me get many uses out of the old Gillette Blue Blade and finally started soaking his in Olive Oil.

It makes sense. Metal rusts and is corrosive, keep it in Olive Oil, or any oil, for that matter, to protect it.

I am using the 4 blade Gillette razor now, the one with the switch that vibrates. The blade I used this morning I started using in early December and it is still going strong. I get about two to two and a half months out of each blade. That's about the only way I can afford to use them.

The Older I get

Like most, we get a lot of catalogs in the mail. They were good "bathroom" reading material. I used to skim over them, occasionally something would catch my eye, but generally skim through the pages.

The older I get, the more I pay attention, and think, "I might need that."

For example.

EXTRA LONG, Easy Grip scissors. I have not gotten any taller, it is just more difficult to reach the ground. These scissors would make toenail trimming much easier.

A Fully Adjustable chair riser. A tubular contraption that fit under your chair, two handles, to help get out of a chair. I sometimes have to bounce two or three times to get out of my chair in the living room.

A "Walker Tray" so you can carry all your things, on your walker. There is also a Walker Basket and Walker Glides and Wheels. I used a walker for a while after my operation, so I can see the usefulness of these items.

There are all sorts of knee and elbow braces, support hose, pills, and other "elder aides."

A Toilet Safety Rail, easy to install, it attaches to your toilet seat and gives you a steady grip, you can "rise with ease." You can also get Toilet Seat Risers, "Ideal for anyone who has difficulty bending or rising from a low position," they add 2 inches of height. They too are easy to install. I can relate to these items. Going to the bathroom is not easy. I have no urinary problems or anything like that, it is just difficult to get up. Sore knees, etc.

A whole section devoted to Waterproof Pants, Waterproof Bed Pad, Incontinence Briefs, and other items to alleviate some of "those" problems, none of which I have yet, but could possibly have not too far down the road.

A great deal of Dr. Leonard's Catalog seems to be devoted to the elderly and making the "twilight years" more comfortable. There is a lot of clothing, Dr. Scholl's shoes, bedding, denture care and many of the products are "As Seen On TV." The ones we have seen so many times on infomercials.

But there are a number of pages devoted to "G-Spot Stimulator's," and a couple dozen "Personal" Massagers and Vibrators. I guess that makes sense. If you are ready for a Walker and Waterproof Pants, and handles to get you off the "pot," so to speak, you probably need some assistance in other ways. I can relate to that, I guess.

I wonder, though, about Men's and Women's Diabetic Active Socks with the Extra Wide stretch at the top. They are specially designed for diabetics. How do they raise "sugar free" cotton?

The one I really want, though, is that Talking Watch. Just press the button and a "friendly" voice tells you the time.

Now that I can relate to. "Honey, what time is it?"

"Are you blind, can't you see the clock, what do you need to know what time it is, where is your watch?"

Element Discovered

Heaviest Element Yet Known to Science Discovered

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to
complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2 - 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A new study is raising eyebrows about the problems a casino could create in Central Ohio.

The benefits are clear:

• Penn National said they will begin offering full-time jobs to Central Ohioans in 2011.
• The developer has already hired a project manager and is eager to get the effort under way.
• But new numbers show the casino could create as many as 22,000 problem gamblers—a dilemma some say no one is prepared to deal with.

The study, released Thursday by community research partners estimates that a Columbus casino could lead to more than 22,000 problem and pathological gamblers in Franklin County.

The study continues to note that the likelihood of problem gambling is double for anyone living within 50 miles of a casino.

The report estimates that 1.2 percent of adults are pathological gamblers at some point in their lifetime. According to the report, another 1.5 percent are problem gamblers.

Based on Franklin County’s population, the report estimates that the cost to treat problem gambling could be $28 million annually in social costs stemming from job losses and health problems.

Issue 3 set aside 2 percent of the casino’s gross tax revenues for gambling and substance abuse treatment and prevention.

A casino-sponsored study estimated that figure to be $12.6 million statewide.

Penn National executives have said the company works to address problem gambling at its facilities.

Central Ohio residents may be most impacted given that the three other casino host cities have out-of-state casinos nearby.

Brooklyn was in the house, today!

Brooklyn came over today for a visit, and we got to watch her for a few hours.

For those who don't know, Brooklyn is my new Great Granddaughter, just a couple weeks old. First time I had gotten to hold her. GGrandma had to get something, so I ended up with Brooklyn on my shoulder.

She fussed a little, then kinda layed her tummy on my chest, and went to sleep. The TV was on, but I wasn't really watching anything, I was too aware of this little life laying on my chest.

The communication that went on between us was incredible. My mind floated back to the other babies I had held on my chest, so many years ago, and I couldn't help but think about what lies ahead for this little life I was holding.

Brooklyn emitted a warmth that was, well, no words really come to mind, the only way to explain it, is to experience it. And to do that you have to live for 77 years, have 77 years of emotions and feelings. You have to realize that you have lived many more years than your future holds. You think of all the years of "future" that lie ahead for Brooklyn Jean Dilts.

I was watching some of the news of Haiti, rain and mudslides out West, big rains, political controversies, wars, terrorism, quite a legacy I am leaving for her.

All my cares just stood still while I was sitting there, holding that little life in my arms. Words really can't begin to convey those feelings.

You just have to live 77 years, go through what I have, experience what I have experienced, and then, have a great granddaughter, a precious little bundle with the name of Brooklyn Jean Dilts.

She made my "highlight" reel today. Brooklyn was in the house.

Brown is in, move to Plan B.

RAMROD health care through, somehow, anyway, do anything, just "GET ER DONE."

The lights are burning in the White House tonight, heads are getting together.

A Republican winning a Kennedy seat in Massachusetts, no way. I still think the ironic thing, Kennedy was so much for Socialized Medicine, and the purson taking his seat might, I say might, throw a wrench into the Obama Healthcare Mechanism.

Wouldn't you love to hear those phone conversations between Pelosi and Obama and Reid.

But, remember, the White House and their "gang" don't care what kind of a message this sends ........... WE WILL DO IT OUR WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My prediction is that that vacant seat in the senate will have a lot of dust on it before Brown is allowed to sit in it.

Let The Games Begin.

Everyone turn your collective heads, you will not want to see what happens next. The Obama Ship of State took a torpedo broadside, they are now working on shoring it up, at any cost.

OVER FOR DINNER

You don't even have to be a mother to enjoy this one...

Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was.

Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of the 'platonic' relationship between Brian and Jennifer, and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates."

About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?"

Brian said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure."

So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mom,

I'm not saying that you 'did' take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not
saying that you 'did not' take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that
one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

Several days later, Brian received an e-mail back from his mother that read:

Dear Son,

I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you
'do not' sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is
sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.

DESPERATION time for OBAMA and his band of merry men and pelosi

I predict that Scott Brown will win tomorrow in Massachusetts.

I further predict that Obama, Reid and Pelosi will contrive SOMEWAY to NOT seat Brown until after another vote is taken in regards to their SOCIALIZED MEDICINE program. They may even demand a recount, throw out the vote and claim it was unconstitutional. Remember they would not let the Republican Governor run, they make up the rules as they go, to fit their agenda.

When Kennedy was elected, he was seated the next day, I predict that will NOT BE ALLOWED to happen in this case. These people do not care one bit what the pubic wants. They want us to all SHUT UP and do what they tell us to do.

They do not care about the STORM that will be created by this move ..... THEY ARE DESPERATE and unfortunately our "leaders." They DO NOT CARE. They want THEIR wishes, programs, desires to pass with no regard or concern about public opinion.

This is a "runaway" government folks, they feel they can do what they want to do, anytime and about anything. They do not give a damn about the "voice of the people."

To them, THEY think that they are the voice of the people.

Mark my words ..... these predictions are "written in the wind."

WE are living during the time of the great "coup." Our government has been taken over, and we can do NOTHING about it.

Happy New Year, 2010 a year that will "live in infamy,"

HOW, can an elected official, ANYWHERE, spend TAXPAYERS MONEY, to support a POLITICAL CANDIDATE.

The Governor of New York, cannot fly at taxpayers expense, to ANYWHERE, to support a candidate.

So, why then, can Obama spend over a million dollars, to fly from Washington, to Massachusetts, to support a candidate.

AND, what is even neater, I have heard NO ONE say anything about it.

Desperate times take desperate measures..................

HE is spending MILLIONS in an attempt to insure that HIS candidate gets elected, so that he can then spend TRILLIONS on Socialized Medicine for the US.

I would love for someone to explain this to me..................

Try it anywhere else ........ spend taxpayers money to promote a political agenda, all hell would break loose ................ I wonder if he sent out any correspondence on White House stationary ........... promoting candidates.......... HE probably did, feels he can do whatever he wants ....

With all that is going on in the world, Haiti, here at home, around the world, Obama can find time to FLY (wonder what that cost) to Massachusetts to help bolster the hopes of the woman who wants to replace Ted Kennedy.

It is ironic, in a way, that if she is defeated, the pending vote could jeopardize the health-care reform vote. Socialized medicine has been uppermost on the Kennedy agenda for many years.

Massachusetts is one of the most Democratic states in the nation.

Health-care reform is at stake. A victory for Scott Brown would deprive the Democrats of the 60 votes they need to push their brand of health-care reform through the Senate without any Republican support. That would be a huge defeat for President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Democrat-only legislative power would come to an end. If Senate Democrats were to lose in Massachusetts, they'd lose their tenuous 60-seat majority needed to push forward legislation without bipartisan support. That means that moderate Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine would instantly become two of the most powerful people on Capitol Hill. One way or another, the Obama agenda would have to be retooled or scaled back.

WHY do we taxpayers have to pay for "political" trips made by the president?

Whatever happened to "Not paid for at taxpayers expense."

Try to get away with that at any other level and see what happens. Disclaimers seem to mean very little when you get to the "upper level" of politics.

WE just paid, probably a million or so, for Obama to fly to Massachusetts, to make a political speech for a candidate running for office.

Definitely Worth Reading ...... and Comtemplating

The Truth About the Health Care Bills - Michael Connelly, Ret. Constitutional Attorney

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.

The irony is that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal health care direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

If you decide not to have health care insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law It doesn't stop there though.

The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;

The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution." If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

Buenos Dias, Jose Conforte


I received an email the other day, someone asked my impression of Joe Conforte, who was the brothel king of Nevada.

My early recollections of Joe go back to 1956 and the few times I saw him in those days. I first saw his bodyguard, a rather large, black haired guy, whose name I unfortunately forget. I may not have ever known his name, all the dealers at the Nevada Club referred to his as the "cry baby." I guess, when he lost, tears came to his eyes, he hated to lose.

I think around this time, Joe was just getting started with his Triangle Ranch. I think he arrived in Reno in 1955. I had a good friend that was a cab driver, the main means of transportaton to the Ranch, and he was always rewarded financially when he took a fare to the Ranch. Joe was always well known for "taking care of people."

Years later, I remember working at the Primm, and seeing Joe and his driver pull up in front of the club in a gorgeous cordovan colored Lincoln convertable, escorting a few girls into the club, and in general, letting the public know that "Joe Conforte is in the house."

Camel haired top coat, big cigar, and he was always ready for a handshake. Ernie kept special cigars behind the bar for Joe, and an expensive bottle of something for him, not sure what it was.
I don't think he wagered heavily, the times I dealt to him, he won. He was a backline player and knew when to get in, and when to get out. He was a good player and an even better "toker. "

I think it was in 1959 that he spent some time in jail in Carson City. Rumor had it that he was put on a "work party" in Virginia City shortly after he signed in, and while there, stayed at the Blair House in a suite of rooms. The Blair House was very old, so I am sure the accommodations were not that great, but still not bad for a work party.

Later on while in prison, he bankrolled some of the games that went on in prison. Yes, at that time, there was a casino in the prison. Gambling is legal in Nevada, so there was nothing wrong with a casino in prison. I guess in prison, Joe still wore his red Alpaca sweater, alligator shoes with the tassels, white on white shirts, Sansi-belt slacks. True Magazine did a story on him in prison, there he is at a crap table, big cigar, rolling the dice. I have heard that his prison number was stenciled on the back of the red alpaca sweater.

It was always a joke in the casinos, that prisoners while in prison, could learn a trade, becoming a dealer, in the prison casino. Prisoner rehab. The only flaw, you can't work in a casino in Nevada if you have been convicted and have a record.

On an occasion or two I have been in a group of people, talking with Joe, at the Nugget in Sparks, while they were converting little bills to larger bills for him. I always enjoyed those brief conversations. Joe was a very intelligent man and knew how to "play" the system. He was an "icon" whether you liked him or not. He was a big part of Nevada history.

If you think about it, Joe ran a more honest business than the casinos. With Joe, you paid for a service, and received it. In a casino, you never stood a chance of winning, so who was the more honest?

The Olympics are heading his way, millions of people, billions of dollars, and Joe right in the middle. I think Mustang in Spanish is Mustang ..... he won't even need new calling cards, just change the address. I hope his health holds out so he can get back into "action" again.

To be Six ...... again

A friend of mine, old Jerry Havens, told me, some time ago he was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday.

"I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror .

On the morning of her Birthday, Jerry arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Roller Coaster, everything there was.

Five hours later, he said they staggered out of the theme park. She said her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, &M's.

What a day he had planned, what a fabulous adventure!

Finally, he said, they wobbled home and they both collapsed into bed exhausted.

He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, "Well Dear, what was it like being six again?"

Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed.

"I meant my dress size, Jerry!!!!'

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, chances are he is gonna get it wrong.

Commentary

I think Limbaugh and Robertson should be taken to task for their remarks.

Comments from a radio host and a televangelist should not carry much weight anyway. I think it is rather pathetic when the spokesperson for the Republican party is nothing more than a glorified disc jockey/call in show (talk show, because he does most of it) host. What ever happened to "politicians" heading up the party. I have often wondered why he is not legally bound to end his show with a "disclaimer." Not just Limbaugh, ALL of them.

What happened in Haiti is a disaster. Politicians take the opportunity to turn it into something political. The press drains everything out of it they can. If all the TV personnel in Haiti would help with the disaster, shove all their microphones into their pockets, and do something, help in some way, it would help greatly in the relief effort.

If I am lying in the street with a broken leg in Haiti, I would much rather have someone try to help me, rather than photograph me, get me on camera and interview me. "How has this disaster and your broken leg affected your life, the people in America and around the world would like to know."

The timing of the earthquake was good for the networks, news was slow. Obama has not flown anywhere for a few days, Sarah's book tour has slowed down, about all they had was trying to blow up the Leno/Colin, whatever his name is, as much as they could.

I have always felt optimistic that if worse came to worse, out of money, no future, I could get a job as a late nite talk show host. It seems to be one of the few jobs that requires absolutely NO qualifications concerning talent. I think that if I was Colin I would keep my mouth shut and take whatever job they offered. He certainly is not worth what they are paying him.

The country and the world cannot come to a standstill while this disaster is being cleaned up. It would not be possible for everyone to stop what they are doing, and concentrate on Haiti.


All the people watching football games this weekend will not fore go the game to try to assist people, the game will go on. No activities will be curtailed.

But wouldn't it be nice to see the whole world stop, and say, "What can we do to help, let's get these people taken care of, let's get them living in some sort of housing, let's get the sick taken care of, let make sure they have food and water."

Then when we get all that done, the hungry fed, the sick healed, the homeless in a place to live, the abused and mistreated relocated, then let's sit back and watch football and basketball, let's go to the movies and concerts and watch TV, then let's worry about Leno and the other guy, after we get all that other done.

13 days into 2010

I feel so sorry for Obama, it seems like he has to do everything himself. I must admit I don't remember any of his cabinet members, I know he has a wife and two kids, but that is about all.

The catastrophe in Haiti, he has to tell us about it. I would think he would have someone around him, maybe even the Ambassador to Haiti, someone, anyone, who would know enough about it to address the nation. Old Hussein has to do it all himself.

I have labeled him the "tennis talker." If you notice, and I don't see how you could not notice, his head goes from left to right, right to left. I have seen that same motion as people watch a tennis match.

The man must have an ego, so large, "how large is it" ..... I don't have a definitive answer for that yet. He must feel he is the only one competent enough to handle any situation that comes along.

I still have to wonder why he didn't take his wife on some of those junkets ...
One reason .................. I got this as an email .....

I was at a Blockbusters renting videos, and as I was going along the wall, there was a video called "Obama". There were two men next to me. We talked about Obama.
These guys were Arabs and I asked them why they thought Michele Obama headed home following her visit in France instead of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband..

They told me she couldn't go to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Iraq.

I said "Laura Bush went to Saudi Arabia , Turkey and Dubai."

They said that Obama is a Muslim, and by Muslim law he would not be allowed to bring his wife into countries that accept Sharia Law.

I just thought it was interesting that two Arabs at Blockbusters accept the idea that we're being led by a Muslim who follows the Islamic creed.

They also said that's the reason he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. It was a signal to the Muslim world.

I am at a point where I don't worry or contemplate the future. I think, right now, our country is a "runaway locomotive" that no one can stop. Being a occasion, elderly, I only look to tomorrow, or even getting through this day. I worry about the future for my children, grandchildren and great grandchilren's sake, but I am frustrated and feel there is nothing I can do about the future.

I miss the past, the spirit of the past. I remember the feeling that was going through the country during WWII, confident and optimistic, "when we rid the world of Hitler and Tojo." Not IF, WHEN.

Then Korea and the inevitable struggle with Russia, Viet Nam, everything that went on until this "age of terrorism." Now I only understand that there is a nation or two who want to see me dead. I remember the days when an American never went to a foreign country and they expected everyone to speak English.

I received a Christmas gift, I think purchased at Walmart, and the box and the instructions were printed in Spanish.

Speaking of Walmart, we shopped there yesterday. We have shopped there for about six years, and always felt we were getting a good product at the lowest price possible. We always felt we saved money shopping there ............ till yesterday. We noticed they were doing a lot more advertising .... their recent INCREASED prices are paying for those ads.

Could it be that we are being led by a leader who actually believes in the overthrow of this country?

Bring back FDR, the country needs him.

Passover Prayer

Janet Paschal had this on her blog, it is worth reading, and thinking about.

When the Jews celebrate Passover today, they pray the Passover Prayer, which recalls the triumphant story of their people. Read for yourself:

Sandy and the Baron..............

I was asked to again relate the story of Sandy.

I knew Sandy back in the 50's, she was a 21 dealer, working at the Golden Hotel. Her husband was a practicing hypnotist, and had an office in Reno. As I understand it, he originally started by working with addicted gamblers, and trying to cure them. I did not know Sandy well, just from seeing her around town, and dealing at the Golden.

I went in to work one morning at the Primm, and there was Sandy, dealing 21 at one of the tables, now working for Ernie at his Primmadonna.

As the night progressed, talk went around the club, more information on breaks, and brief chats with Sandy, her story came out.

The way the Golden was laid out, they had a group of 21 tables surrounding the lounge, separated by thick curtains. Some noise from the lounge acts would make its way out to the 21 tables. It worked both ways, 21 players would be lured into the lounge, and customers in the lounge would end up on the 21 tables.

Everyone around Reno had heard of Baron Von Brenner, a stage hypnotist who had been around town for a while, and had a very entertaining act. He got booked into the Golden for an extended engagement.

That is where the problem came in.

The Baron would be on stage, doing his hypnotism act, and at certain times, certain cues, Sandy, who was dealing 21, quite a distance away, standing there, cards in had, would nod her head, and fall completely asleep. They would have to go get the Baron, and get him to release her from here sleep.

Well, it is not a good thing to have a 21 dealer nod off to sleep during a game.

She apparently was so susceptible to hypnotism because of her husband, that a number of things put her "under." So, she left the Golden and went to work at the Primm. Always wondered what it said on her application for "Reason for Leaving."

I put this incident on a BB a few years ago and got an email from Baron Von Brenners son, who I think was living in Illinois, who said he had heard his Father relate that story a number of times.

I could always picture, Sandy, dealing cards and all of a sudden her head drops, and she is asleep.

After she came to work at the Primm, I have heard her complain of having a headache, or being tired, and on a break, her husband would come in and they would go and sit in the coffee shop. He would say or do something, her head would drop to one side, and in a few seconds, he would do something, she would wake up, and feel great.

Sandy and her husband got me interested in Dianetics, and that led to my meeting L. Ron Hubbard one afternoon at Harold's Club, in the lounge, on the seventh floor, where he had given a brief address.

The Flat Tire .........................



My neighbor, Tammy, had a flat tire yesterday.

She said she got out of the car, opened the trunk, and took out her cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of her car facing oncoming traffic.

They looked so life like, well you wouldn't believe it!

Cars started slowing down and looking at her lifelike men which made it safer for her to work at the side of the road.

Traffic started backing up.

Everybody was honking their horns and waving like crazy.

It wasn't long before an Ohio State Trooper pulled up behind her.

"What's going on here?"

"My car had a flat tire," Tammy said calmly.

"Well, what are those cardboard men doing here by the road?"

Tammy said that she could not believe that he didn't know, so she told him.

"Hellooooooo, those are my Emergency Flashers."

Things to happen in 2010

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six year Senate terms
B. Six Two year House terms
C. One Six year Senate term and three Two Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension:

A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2010

Well, we now have a new 365 days, what to do with them. I have made some resolutions.

I am going to become a millionaire Internet Marketer, like all those other people have done. I don't know how, but I have a year to turn a small amount of time and money into overnight piles of money. It must be easy, from the looks of it on the Internet anyone can do it. A high school student did it, a broke bum did it, a Mom did it. I am 77, it should be a snap for me. And, I have been on the computer for over 20 years. I may buy Tiger's boat if he has to sell it.

I am going to start a daily exercise program. I am on one now. We purchased an exercise bike about a year ago. This Thanksgiving and Christmas, I cooked for the family. So, we had to move the exercise bike out of our dining room, into out bedroom. Faithfully, every night, I move the bike about two feet to the left, to sit in my chair by the bed so I can watch TV, and then, I move it back two feet, so I can get in bed. That has been my exercise routine for a few weeks. I am going to improve on that.

At 77, I have produced a lot of liver spots on my face, I guess from sitting in the sun so much. I have been approached by the LAA (Liver Association of America) to be in a TV commercial promoting liver and all its health benefits. They felt that the association of my liver spots would trigger a subliminal response association and the ads would be more effective. We are negotiating.

Next Winter, we will be living in a warmer climate. I say that every year, but I really mean it this year, 78th time is a charm.

I am going to study the Koran, in Spanish with Chinese subtitles. That should cover most contingencies.

I am going to try to watch TBN more often, and not be frightened by the appearance of some, and not wonder why some just wear t-shirts and jeans, and some wear suits and ties, not contemplate whether screaming gets a point across better than normal speech.

I am going to continue my Early to Bed and Early to Rise so I don't have to watch Leno and Letterman and all of those other late night talents. After seeing them, and if the Internet Millionaire Marketing things does not work out, I know I have enough talent to have a late night TV show.

We have been living in this apartment now for almost 6 years. I originally wanted to keep it much like a motel room. Just enough clothes to get by, and well, keep it like a "model apartment." Well, we both did demos for a few years. We now have three coffee pots, two microwaves, a big one and a little one, three George Foreman Grills, 3 toaster ovens, 3 crock pots, a roaster, aprons hanging everywhere and storage tubs full of napkins, table cloths, samples, etc, and etc.

We had one computer, now we have two, each with printers, and stacks of discs, software boxes, etc., etc.

And, Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary and other assorted gifts, etc., that we have received during this time.

About once a week be shop the Goodwill Store nearby. They are loaded with things we really don't need, but their prices are so low, well, we just have to buy them. I have bought things there, well, I didn't know what it was, but it was cheap, I bought it, and later figured out what it was. We are going to cut out shopping at Goodwill this year.

So, this year, I am going to select one week a month, to work on a room. In seven months, this place will be looking like a motel room again. All the junk will be thrown out, all the stuff we don't need or use will be gone, clothes I don't wear taken to Goodwill. They will be getting back a lot of stuff we bought there.

So in seven months, I will be well on my way to financial independence, just like that newspaper boy did that had that closet full of money he made on the Internet, it must be so easy to do. The apartment will be spotless, all the junk removed, and we can start looking in Florida or Arizona or California for our new place to live.

2010, what a year this will be.
