Germany at the beginning of the '30s was in deep economic trouble with about 6 million unemployed. Similar to what America has had the past year or so. And even more so this year.

Hitler became the savior and fooled millions of Germans who adored him but had no clue what he had in mind. Once in power, he immediately began to secure his position. He eliminated all opposition and produced jobs for 6 million people.

Hitler also started taking over various industries, banks, auto companies. Even 'working' with Volkswagen.

Contrary to popular rumor, Hitler did not design the Beetle. He did however help design the KDF. which was a precursor to the Beetle. Hitler called the new car the "KdF-Wagen" — the "Strength Through Joy Car" — after the Nazi-led KdF (Kraft durch Freude) movement that was supposed to look after the working people.
