The Spotlight

A movie on with Gordon McRae, brought back a memory.

Years ago, in Reno, I was working at the Primm, a boxman, and one afternoon, some friends of mine from Klamath Falls, Oregon called were in town, and would like to go out and see Gordon McRae who was appearing at The Nugget out in Sparks, Nevada. It was his last night and they really wanted to see him. I told them I had to work that night, but, would call in sick for the night and go with them to see the show.

I called the Primm, and told them I was not feeling well, and would not be in for my shift.

I called a friend of mine who worked at The Nugget, and he assured me he could get four "comps" for the show.

We got ready, went to their motel and picked them up and headed for Sparks.

We arrived, went in, went to the "window" to get out tickets. I had asked for seats "way in the back" so on the chance that someone was there that I knew, we would be pretty far back and no one would see me.

We ended up at a table, in the back corner, perfect.

We ate, and sat back waiting for the show. The lights dimmed and the room was in total darkness. A small bright spotlight was turned on so everyone could see the entrance into the room of Gordon McRae, there were two people in the spotlight, Gordon McRae and me, way back in the corner of the room.

It seemed like everyone I knew was in the room that night, I got all sorts of calls the next day.

When I went in to work that night, first person to greet me was Don Eammelli, my shift manager, all he said was, "How was the show?"
