Tom Cruise 'given lavish gifts by Scientology leader

Scientology leaders have allegedly spent a fortune on extravagant presents for Tom Cruise, including felling a giant eucalyptus tree to make gifts for him.

The tree was cut down in the California grounds of the organisation and made into items like a pen and the interior of a customised 4X4 for him, according to former member Marty Rathbun.

Other gifts allegedly given to Cruise included an aircraft hangar and a bus called Silver Screen, which Cruise demanded was fitted with a drawer to keep slippers in so people did not walk on the carpet with dirty shoes.
