So what else is new?

Two New York legislators are among those expected to face federal charges in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation involving the upcoming mayoral election, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York.

Democratic State Sen. Malcolm Smith, city Councilman Dan Halloran, a Queens Republican, and four others were arrested by the FBI Tuesday morning.

Law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York Smith was allegedly involved in a plot to try to get onto the GOP mayoral ballot by offering payments to Republican county chairmen. Any candidate seeking to be added to a ballot would need the approval of three of the five county chairmen for a particular party.

Two Republican county chairmen -- Joseph Savino, of the Bronx, and Vincent Tabone, of Queens -- were among those arrested Tuesday.

Also expected to be charged are Democrat Noramie Jasmin, mayor of Spring Valley in Rockland County, and her deputy mayor, Joseph Desmaret, were also arrested in connection with the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara is expected to detail specific charges later Tuesday.
