Jet Carrying 116 People Vanishes Over West Africa

A commercial jetliner carrying 116 people, including 50 from France, disappeared over west Africa after adjusting its route due to a storm early Thursday, Burkina Faso's transport minister told news outlets. Air Algerie Flight AH5017 vanished from radar about 50 minutes after it took off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, according to the Algerian Press Service. The jet took off at 1:17 a.m. local time (9:17 p.m. ET on Wednesday) bound for Algiers, Algeria. France's transport minister said the flight disappeared over northern Mali, The Associated Press reported. Swiftair said 110 passengers and six crew were aboard the jet, NBC News reported.
