I'm stuck on "spectators"

I guess we know that Jesus had his followers, crowds around him, listening to what he had to say. The coliseum, where they watched the Christian get eaten and chewed up by the lions. And there have been spectators since, there probably always have been. I guess there are "doers" and there are "watchers."

What shortcoming in our "psyche" led to all of those. "Spectator sports."?

Why have some become golf watchers instead of golf players. Why would someone rather watch, than play? Is it some get so much better and those less proficient watch them in an attempt to improve their game. We like to watch those more talented than ourselves. Has marketing and advertising attributed to this? They were able to take, just a football game, and turn it into a spectacle, almost a Holiday, the Super Bowl. It started out as just a game, look at it now, the game has lost its importance, it's the halftime entertainment, the television commercials, it is no longer a football game, it is an advertising venue, nothing more.

So many events are no longer events, they are television programs, loaded with advertising, and this exposure has led to .... viewers .... or spectators ... millions of viewers, watching all these "spectators sports" that used to be, just games.

So in reality, we really didn't want to become spectators ...... THEY wanted us to..............
