BREAKING NEWS 07/22/2014 - Delta Cancels All Flights to Israel Indefinitely
Delta has canceled all flights to Israel indefinitely, citing a report of a rocket near the airport in Tel Aviv that forced a flight from New York to be diverted.
The Delta Boeing 747 departed John F. Kennedy International Airport with 273 passengers and 17 crew aboard and was flying over the Mediterranean Tuesday when it was diverted to France because of reports of a rocket or associated debris near Ben Gurion International Airport.
It said it suspended service until further notice between the Israeli airport and it's New York-JFK hub.
An Israeli police spokesman said a rocket fell three miles from the airport earlier in the day, but said he was not aware of any immediate situation at the time the Delta flight was diverted.
American Airlines tells NBC News it is meeting to discuss its flights in and out of Tel Aviv.
US Airways, which has one daily flight from Philadelphia, canceled that flight Tuesday and the return trip from Tel Aviv. United Airlines, which has two flights daily to Israel out of Newark, New Jersey did comment immediately on the status of those flights.
