Reflecting a bit ..

Cleaning the kitchen, doing my housework and listening go "50's on 5" ... music from the 50's and what do they play, "Chances Are" by Johnny Mathis. All of a sudden I was sitting at the bar of the Crystal Bay Club at Lake Tahoe, talking with Jack the bartender, and Red and some of the other dealers, tourists and people at the bar. Bettye Johnson was there, Jerry Havens, Thelma Ganz and Jeanette Fenner and many more, who names have escaped me.

I have to wonder who all is left, if any, most were all older than I was.

Red, I sold my golf clubs to him, always wondered about his past. He had owned clubs around Nevada, I think had a lot of money, really nice car. Conversations about his past were few. I always felt he had "retired" to Lake Tahoe. There were reportedly quite a few hiding out, "on the hill" as it was called. Doc Ledford was another one I always wondered about.

When I was up there, it was the first Winter that the Crystal had been open. It always closed in the Winter, and everyone lived on their unemployment. Actually, not much on the Lake at that time. The unemployment office in Carson City would send someone up to the lake and they would hand out checks at the bar. The parking area would be filled with exotic foreign sports cars, driven there by guys picking up their unemployment checks.

My point, would love to be able to sit around and talk old times with them. Jerry "Hoot" Havens and I could talk for hours. My good friend and mentor, in a way, Don Eammelli, who was also my shift boss, I would like to spend hours talking with him. So many I would like to reminisce with, doubt that many, if any, are still around. I know Don is gone, Joe Francis, I know they are gone. Have talked with Don's daughter, and heard from Harrah's that Joe had passed.

I have my dear friend in California, Ernie, that I hear from, and his Emails, and more recently have heard from Dwayne Kling on a few occasions. Those are my two "doors" to the past. Ernie, my Navy days and Dwayne my Nevada days, Thankful to have them both around.
