Why does everyone have to be home and together for Thanksgiving? All forms of the travel industry need the money. And let's not forget the grocery industry, and, imagine what Walmart does in sales in this week, and until the first of the year.
Sentimentality has nothing to do with it. It is almost obscene the way they manipulate us, playing on our sympathies, our emotions, get home, spend time with family, but, fly, train, bus, just travel and spend money.
Christmas, you ask. Well, we used to make chains out of construction paper, and decorate the house with electric candles in the windows, and our tree, showing through the front window. That was it. Look what "they" have us doing now, billions of dollars in decorations, some which we now display in November, and, if you put up a Manger Scene, you could get arrested ..... "Hey, we don't want no baby Jesus around here!"
"String popcorn, what the heck is that, I got them nine blow-up Santa things an this blow up tree, and I got 128 thousand lights when I hit this switch ..... what, ..... well, no, by the time we pay our lectric bill we ain't got no money for presents, but we lite up the whole neighborhood."
Oh, the joy we all experience, the joy of ...... giving ...... of receiving ... and to some, no, well to many, the joy of .................... selling, of accepting donations. And thanks to TV and their encouragement, like having Christmas in July and other year round selling events .... we get more joy out of the season and they ............... well ............. they make more money.
