Oh how I envy those of you who were born, raised, live and pass on, in one town or village. I am beginning to dislike "distance." I am saddened that many of my loved ones live distances away where we rarely have an opportunity to see them. My daughter-in-law has a birthday today, in New Jersey. I would love to be able to celebrate the day with her.
My dear old friend, Ernie, lives clear out in California, and a "like a son" Jim, lives in Oklahoma. My early childhood "chums" I have not seen since childhood. I wonder what happened to Alma Faye Eilerman, have not seen her in seventy years. Bob, even forgot his last name, an early "playmate," he had a brother and sister, we spent many hours together, playing in that backyard on Brown Street. It is all now a freeway. The Guilds, the Wolfs, the kids I went to Emerson with, names forgotten.
Most of my high school class is gone, and then I moved around some, good times and good memories, but would be nice to see them all again.
Everyone wants to "get away from home." If they only knew what they were missing out on, they might feel differently.
I spoke yesterday, on the phone, with two "Reno" guys, the memories that brought back.
How nice it would have been, throughout my life, to have been able to sit down, and have supper with my grandparents (All were gone when I was born, never knew a grandparent), aunts and uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters (I had a sister, born before me, died at birth) Mom and Dad, grandkids and great grandkids, and some friends and neighbors, what a meal that would have been.
So if you are a "born here, raised here, lived here, worked here, married here raised a family here," don't complain, you are living the good life.
My kids now are in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and fortunately, one here in Newark.
