Rainy in Ohio this "Day after Labor Day" morning. Have not gone over the news yet, enjoying a cup of coffee in my new coffee cup I got Sunday at a Goodwill Store. My ADD kicked in and I felt I needed a new cup. This is a Baileys cup, I assume for their creamer, coffee does seem to taste a little better in the cup though.
The first thing I did after starting the coffee, sit down ..... and turn on music, on the TV. I love the silence of it NOT being on, but when our telephone rings, it shows on the TV. It is the "height" of something, turn on the TV, tune to a music channel, and then turn the sound OFF, so I can see who calls on the phone .... or as Inspector Clouseau would say the "Pheauuunnnn." A number of new pronunciations have entered my vocabulary because of the Inspector. "Daauuuwwwwwggg" for exanple. As in, "Does your dauuuwwwggg bite?"
"No" came the reply. GRRRR dog bite. "I thought you said your daaaauuuuwwwggg did not bite."
"That is not my dog."
When did we start having to be "entertained" so much? Many "off work" hours, and even some in work hours, are filled with being entertained. What did Ogg and Mor do, living in that cave. Before fire, they had nothing to entertain them. After fire at least they could be warm and look at the fire. Many of Ogg's hours were spent in finding food, Ogg, I imagine was figuring out ways to make clothes and things and how to prepare the food that Ogg brought home. But, after dinner, they just sat, and unfortunately, they had few memories to look baack upon.
"Let's go watch Guga run from the Lion tomorrow," Ogg said to Mor, "that might ..... " .... might what, they didn't have words yet for fun, enjoyment, entertainment. They didn't know they were bored, boredom had not been invented yet, because they had nothing to compare it to. Hunger was a biological thing, "Oh, Mor, listen, pointing to a growling in the stomach, Ogg need?.... what, food, hunger, not invented yet.
Then, in time, progress .... and look at us now, still sitting the cave, with nothing to do, but .... we have Television ... so Ogg and Mor are still just sitting around, but they get their food at Krogers, and they still just, sit, and watch, TV........... ain't progress grand?
