President Barack Obama forced the resignation Wednesday of the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service in connection with the inappropriate targeting of conservative political groups.
President Obama announced on Wednesday that his administration has accepted the resignation of acting IRS chief Steven Miller.
"Americans are right to be angry about it and I'm angry about it,"* Mr. Obama said in announcing the departure of acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller, who took over the post in November. "The IRS has to operate with absolute integrity."
The president said new leadership at the IRS would help restore confidence in the agency, and he promised to work with Congress in its investigations and put new safeguards in place. He also said the laws that affect tax-exempt organizations should be clarified.
I was mistaken, I guess, I though Congress controlled the IRS, not the president, mus have been wrong about that. I guess if he could tell them to target, and they did, then he must be the boss.
