When did it happen?

I was in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. I remember well, WWII. I have heard my Father relate stories of WWI, and also related stories that he head heard from his Father who served in the  Civil War.

I cannot relate to, "Skipper, we can't leave port, we're out of gas." But, that is what is happening in our military. I just cannot imagine how we got to this point. They are already underpaid, understaffed and under equipped, all of our once proud military, now second rate. How and when did that happen. What is even worse, there is no way we can fix it. Did it happen intentionally?

ALL of our armed forces should be well paid, well equipped and well staffed. They should be "second to none" and be the pride of our country.
