Super Bowl Sunday, the day we get to see hours and hours of commercials, expert commentary by hasbeen coaches and players, entertainers with no connection to football whatsoever, all of this interrupted, briefly, by a game. I still think this game was manipulated by the TV network, this is the dream scenario, not the two teams, the two coaches, brothers, competitive brothers, and in the middle, Mom and Dad, and a sister, who is also married to a coach, whose team upset Number One last night, how great is all of that. A show made for TV. I wonder how much "influence" TV had in making this happen. It will never happen again.
Some are saying that this should become a national holiday. Many will be late to work tomorrow, or not show up at all, too much partying today. The site of the game, New Orleans, is filled to the gills with people and money. The money wagered on this game today could help reduce the national debt, or feed thousands of homeless people, or assist many people who are ill and cannot afford care.
Television ads that become "historic" in their message and their graphics, not to say what they cost, measured in seconds, not minutes.
Probably a halftime show that will be rerun thousands of times, and be seen by possibly billions. Unfortunately I have not heard of any of the "entertainers" so I cannot comment on the quality of their talent. Someone will sing our National Anthem at the start of the game, and I am sure they will add their own little "touch" to the tune.
Sometimes a "malfunction" in clothing happens, during the halftime ceremony that overshadows the entire proceedings.
Oh, the game, you mean all that stuff that goes on in between the commercials and the commentary, who cares, who really cares, it's the TV SHOW that's important, the commercials. Here's the plan. Go to the kitchen for goodies when the game is on. Be in front of your set for each and every commercial, forget the game, it's the commercials that are important. Only the bookies and those who wagered are concerned about the outcome, and that doesn't happen till the end of the game. So, be sure the watch the commercials.
The coaches, the Harbaugh boys, their Mom and Dad, Joani Crean, the wife of the Indiana basketball coach, incidentally, the team that beat number one Michigan last night. It is all coming together, just like they planned it.
I remember many years ago, we had gone out to my wife's Grandmothers house in the country, she was in her 90's at the time. I was sitting out on the front steps talking with my wife's uncle. Everyone in the country was talking about the Super Bowl. I asked him if he was going to watch the game. "No, our TV went out a few years ago and we have just not gotten around to getting it fixed." That put it in perspective for me and I have never forgotten it. It is just a game, fed steroids, that has become nothing more than a TV show.
