When does the GOOD outweigh the BAD?
Awards are being renamed, records are being erased, even the name of a sandwich stand is being changed at Penn State. No one seems to be coming forward to extol anything good that Joe Paterno might have done. He coached winning teams, built a football dynasty, was an articulate sports broadcaster for many years, and obviously had a positive impact on many lives. None of whom seem go be coming forward.
There was obviously a gigantic cover up that is actually beyond comprehension to me. I think its echos resounded throughout the state of Pennsylvania, from the top down. We may never know the extent or the depth of the cover up.
I have been somewhat amazed that no one has come forward with any good words for the coach, maybe he deserves known. It still is beyond my comprehension how a coach, a builder of men, could allow these events to take place and say nothing. Pressure from the top, perhaps?
More and more I think of the words of OSU President Gordon Gee when confronted with a situation involving the football coach and himself, "He (Coach Tressel) may fire me." If Paterno had such "juice" in the state and on campus, then the blame does all fall on his shoulders, and what is happening is justified.
Amazing what television can do.
