Lawrence Taylor was told his Super Bowl ring was bought by Charlie Sheen

Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl ring will hardly know it switched owners.

According to Jay Glazer, the Hall of Fame linebacker was told that a fellow aficionado of all things illicit, Charlie Sheen, was the buyer of his Super Bowl XXV ring that recently sold for more than $230,000 at auction. It's not known whether Taylor's information is accurate but, man, we hope it is.

Taylor's agent, Mark Lepster, confirmed to Glazer that LT was told Sheen bought the ring. They are still trying to confirm this poetic purchase. It's like Phil Spector buying O.J.'s Heisman.

The actor has an extensive sports memorabilia collection that includes Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring and the contract that sold the baseball great from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees. He also owned the infamous Bill Buckner ball.

Taylor's son, TJ, put the ring up for auction unbeknownst to his father. The troubled former star said he had no problem with the decision.

GM passes on running TV ads during 2013 Super Bowl

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Co will not advertise in next year's Super Bowl because it is too expensive, the top marketing executive for the U.S. automaker said three days after the company announced it was dropping paid ads on Facebook Inc.

The 2013 Super Bowl will be broadcast by CBS Corp, which is selling 30-second ads for as much as $4 million.
Spots on NBC's broadcast of this year's National Football League championship game, the most heavily watched annual event on U.S. television, cost about $3.5 million per 30-second spot. NBC is majority-owned by Comcast Corp.

"We understand the reach the Super Bowl provides, but with the significant increase in price we simply can't justify the expense," GM global marketing chief Joel Ewanick said in a statement.

A Sad Story --- The Loving Husband

A man had two of the best tickets for the Super Bowl. As he sits down, another man comes along and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him..

"No", he says, "the seat is empty."

"This is incredible!" said the man, "who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event of the  football calendar and not use it?"

He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife was supposed to come with me, but she passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we haven ' t been together since we got married."

"Oh... I ' m sorry to hear that. That ' s terrible. I guess you couldn't find someone else, a friend or relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?"

Fans bet $94M on Super Bowl at Nevada casinos

Someone, somewhere, has money, things aren't too bad around the country. This was just Nevada, just think of ALL the other bets that  were made around the country and the world. Just think what might have been wagered in China, they have more money than we do. Are all of our "ducks in a row"?

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) —

Sports fans bet $93.9 million at Nevada casinos on Sunday's Super Bowl match up between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, the most wagered in the past decade.

The Gaming Control Board says unaudited tallies show 184 sports books won a little over $5 million on the football action. New England was about a 3 point favorite, but the Giants won 21-17.

It was a different story for Nevada casinos when the same two teams played in the 2008 Super Bowl. The Patriots opened as 14-point favorites four years ago, but Giants backers bet the line down to 12 points and got paid when New York earned a 17-14 win.

Nevada casinos lost the most money ever on the Super Bowl that year — $2.6 million.

Shelters planning Super Bowl parties

I was searching about the number of Homeless in Indianapolis when I found this article. Turns out there are not too many homeless there, and they decided AGAINST rounding them up prior to the Super Bowl and keeping them away from the downtown. Then I found this, haircuts, meals, TV, all for the Super Bowl. That makes the Super Bowl more important than any other day of the year ..... a game, something wrong with that picture, somewhere.

Wheeler Mission Ministries, which provides services and shelters for the homeless, annually holds a Super Bowl party on game day for the homeless and will do so Feb. 5.

"They'll be able to watch the game, have some pizza and enjoy the festivities," said Steve Kerr, chief development officer for Wheeler. In addition to its shelter on Market Street, Wheeler has overflow space at its center at 245 N. Delaware St.

Wheeler Mission Ministries also operates a shelter for women and children at 3208 E. Michigan St., and Kerr said holding another Super Bowl party at that shelter is under consideration, depending upon the interest.

Among others planning Super Bowl parties for the homeless is Homeless & ReEntry Helpers, 940 E. Michigan St., which serves as a resource center for the homeless and provides a Helpers Helping Others Outreach Team.

Founded by street ministers about three years ago, the resource center serves meals three days a week to about 450 homeless people, said Don Hawkins, executive director. The center hopes to add a fourth meal day after the Super Bowl.

On the day before the game, the homeless will be offered free haircuts and a meal from 3 to 5 p.m. On game day, meals will be served from 3 to 5 p.m., after which those attending can watch the game on two big screens.

"We just thought it would be nice," Hawkins said.

Who won the Super Bowl ...

What a world-wide event it has become, around 116 million viewers. chickens lost though, 1.25 billion chicken wings eaten Super Bowl weekend. The players made money, the owners, the league, ad agencies, the networks, TV stations. One guy plopped down $1000 on a first score being a safety, I think he won $50,000, the list of  "happenings" goes on and on.

I remember the first one, and have watched all or part of all of them since. I did not like the "strike" situation this year, and as a result, my own "silent protest" consisted of watching no NFL games this year. During the game, I was channel hopping and did see Brady throw that pass that cost them two points, and I watched the last two minutes of the game, which really was all that was needed. 

I am not clairvoyant, but I did predict a Giants victory. I am skeptical and have been for quite some time. TV is the reason for the games, so I think TV has a lot to do with outcomes. Welker rarely drops passes, but if he had held on to that one, the outcome might have been different, so he dropped it. Maybe a coincidence.

TV loves close halftime scores to lure people back for the second half. You don't see him, and I have not been to a game in a while, so it could be different, but on the sideline, near the end zone, is a guy with a brightly colored sleeve. When his arm goes up, no football, when it comes down, they play. He lets them know when it is OK to play. He is the TV guy on the field, not the refs or the line judges, the guy with the colored sleeve tells them when to play, controlled from up above by the guys on TV.

Both the losing team and the winning team players will be able to relax in their million dollar homes, work out the kinks in their Jacuzzi s, maybe take the trophy wife and the kids to Disneyland, or Nassau or some exotic place to unwind, been a grueling season. "Hey hon, I'm going to take the Bentley and get some steaks and lobsters for dinner tonight."

Everyone is happy, the fans, the networks, owners, teams,  all the stores who sold the goodies. Well, maybe some who are homeless, out or work, hungry, maybe some right there in Indianapolis, not far from the game, maybe they felt better knowing everyone was having a good time, maybe.

Stores busy as Colo. prepares for major snowstorm

DENVER (AP) — A powerful winter storm moving across Colorado Friday has dumped more than a foot of snow in some areas.
The storm has prompted a blizzard warning for the northeast, forced flight cancellations and school closures, and calls from highway officials to slow down on icy roadways.

National Weather Service meteorologist Bob Kleyla says the snow began falling Thursday night and by 3:30 a.m. MST Friday, six inches had fallen on downtown Denver, more in suburban areas and up to 15 inches in the foothills west of the city.
He adds that Boulder and some areas just north of Colorado Springs were struggling with 10 inches of snow.
But despite the weather, Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Jarrett Handy says there are no current road closures, even though many roads are icy and snow packed.

He urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially during rush hour.

Sour Economy Has Nevada Looking For New Jackpot

The site of the demolished Frontier casino sits vacant on the Las Vegas Strip in December. Construction of a new hotel and casino, the Las Vegas Plaza, has been delayed until economic conditions improve.

It's noon on the Las Vegas Strip, and the barker outside O'Shea's Casino is hard at work.

"Twenty-four-hour happy hour, 24-hour $5 blackjack and 24-hour beer pong action going on right here today," he says. Dressed in a lime green tuxedo, he's doing his best to get tourists to come in.

Despite the recession, nearly 39 million visitors came to the city last year, the second-highest number in Las Vegas history. The problem is those tourists don't have as much money as they once did.

One tourist, Genina Jackson, says that after a decade since her last visit, she notices the difference. "Ten years ago, people dressed up a little more," she says. "I see a lot of jeans and flip-flops."

Jackson had stopped along the Strip in front of the huge fountains at Caesars Palace to take a picture with her friend Melissa. They are in from Atlanta celebrating Melissa's birthday.

"The casino is not as crowded. You can get to any table. Before, 10 years ago, you couldn't get to a table," Jackson says.

New casinos being built in Ohio to save our economy. There is also a rumor that the state is trying to buy the Titanic, and is investing heavily  in the manufacture and sale of propeller driven airplanes. Rumor has it also that the governor has been in negotiations with the city of New York in regards to purchasing the Brooklyn Bridge.

Muslim or a Mormon????????

To be, or not to be, that is the question. Do we want a Muslim or a Mormon for President of these United States? What happened to the Catholics or Lutherans or Episcopalians, are even the Southern Baptists? How about the Jewish. Some are perceived being "tight" with money, need that now more than ever.

I have had a quite a few dealings with Mormons, knew many when I lived in Oregon, and attended a Mormon Church out there on occasions. I even started out taking their "lessons" for a few weeks, until I realized that anyone who completed their lessons would become a Mormon, so I stopped. The training those boys get in Salt Lake is second to none. They get you saying YES all the time. "If we show you that this is the TRUE religion, will you join us?" Well, yes, I guess so. I felt like I was being lured into a trap.

"Mind control" often came to mind when I talked with or associated with some "good" Mormons. I think the Mormon Church is guilty of using "mind control" and controlling their members. I thought it was nice that they were big on family. Then I realized that they like to "get them early" and keep them under control.

Who said cult, it didn't come from me? But, there are a few similarities if you look up the definition. Maybe "cult" is a good thing, for all I know, just has a bad reputation.

To get both sides, I looked up the definition of Muslim. "An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim." I must admit I got lost reading the definition. Every other word had to be looked up, so I gave up. I admit I am not sure what a Lutheran or a Baptist is, either. I do think, though, that the Muslims and the Mormons are two of the big boys in the religion area.

I also remember a number of people heading to the "Temple" in Salt Lake when they had any major decisions to make, the Elders assisted them. Many younger adults spent time there determining what their future should hold for them, i.e profession, area of study, etc. Wonder if Mitt spent time there, and politics was his "calling?"

Muslim or a Mormon. are we a great country, or what? It's just not a black and white issue.

Well worth reading .......... a good thought

A young couple moved into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast, 
The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. "That laundry is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."
Her husband looked on, but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."
The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."
And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look!

A Monday Morning Thought

It's quiet, very quiet, cold, no cars, no TV yet, and a thought came to me, before I put the coffee on. Why do we need to create so many jobs? That's all  you hear, job creation. I got to wondering, what do we need to be produced.

Walmart is full, Krogers is full, Meijers is full, went shopping yesterday, and Kohl's was full of product, so much so they were having big sales. II don't think there is a shortage in the auto industry.

If Barack, or someone, gave me a ton of money to start a business, a manufacturing plant, a farm, something, I don't know what it would be. There are more cell phones than there are people, I hear. Just where and what would be have all the unemployed do?

Maybe we don't need any more jobs. If we bring back all those jobs that have gone elsewhere, and produce all those products  here, instead of China or Mexico, we probably couldn't afford them. And if we brought them all back, those countries would become a problem and our government, in its infinite wisdom, would have to bail them out, so monetarily, we are back where we started.

I got an email the other day that cited many stores and products, that if you look around in a store, you can find something that is made in the USA that would be equal or lesser in price, IF you just check a little.

If the present work force, around the world, is supplying the needs of the majority, what to do with those who are not working?

What steps do we take, to put the unemployed to work, to supply those  in need? Remember too, that those in need have no means to purchase the products they need, to compensate the unemployed for their labor.

Create jobs, to do what? Put the unemployed to work, to do what? Technology and "progress" has eliminated many jobs. It now takes less people to do more work, that creates a problem.

I have not written a blog in quite a while, and I have to get one done ....what to write?

How does Caleb know it is exactly 8:00 AM? Every morning, I feel a paw scratching at my feet. I get up, and Caleb heads to where my head was recently sleeping, and snuggles up, and takes a nap, after I get up. So many mornings I have felt that something at my feet, looked at the clock, exactly 8:00, how does Caleb do that?

Politics: Actually, about as interesting as a rock. I have a few rocks on my end table that my Dad made. The cabinet and the rocks mean a lot to me. The rocks are from Cape Cod, taken from my Daughter's front yard. The recent stir in Iowa, all things considered, probably had something to do with millions of dollars, money that could have been better spent helping someone or something out. If nothing else, they could have purchased suits for the participants.

I will not vote for anyone who campaigns in jeans and a shirt. THEY show NO respect for me, so they will not get my vote. What is even worse, a nice thousand dollar suit, a one hundred sixty dollar shirt, and NO TIE. Why not just forget to put on the pants. Most newscasters wear ties, Drew Carey wears a tie. Why get "almost" dressed, wear ties. Doctors, ministers, politicians, successful businessmen should wear a tie.

Warm in Ohio today, similar pattern to when we had the blizzard. Washed the car yesterday, brushed out the floors, even warmer today. Nice, but scares me a bit as to what is coming ... we always seem to have to "pay the piper."

Something will happen soon...... not sure what it will be, but we are in a "slow" news time, politics is actually boring, Obama is up to something, not sure what .... little to no news out of Washington, so, weather, disaster, something will happen soon. All of the TV crews are at home. If the weather was bad, i.e. snow in the North, etc., would be a "Southern" disaster so they could head for warmer weather. But, something will happen soon, it always does. Hope you are not involved in it...

The Super Bowl last Sunday.

I did not watch any of the halftime "entertainment," I did not entirely see the National Anthem being "sung," I took one look at her and switched to another channel, after realizing how strong the "Hookers Union" actually is. I understand she "butchered" the song. I guess the halftime entertanment had a few snags also. The economy is slow, I am sure they had financial cutbacks on this, the "biggest revenue maker of the year."

I don't think you should blame the third grade class from the Little School in Arlington, it was their first attempt at doing the entertainment for the Super Bowl. They thought that Christina Agulara, being an "old woman" to them, would be alright. Christina Aguilera has been invited to sing a do-over. The Brooklyn Cyclones are offering the Staten Island native a chance to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" before one of the minor league baseball team's home games this summer in front of their 300 anticipated fans.

I am sure that many people are not aware that Ben Roethlisberger, upon entering Miami, started out majoring in Psychology, and was pursuing that course of study until one day one of his professors, Dr. Schlimhauf, explained to him the meaning of Therapist. Ben thought it was two words, and quickly dropped out of the course.

I personally think that the powerful TV network execs, leaned toward Green Bay to win, because of Ben's recurring problems. He now has two bodyguards with him at all times. One actually is a transvestite weight lifter from Pasadena, California and the other is a crossdresser from Hoboken. Her attire depends on the occasion.

I predict that  next year the Bears will be in the Super Bowl, It will be attended by Obama and his entire entourage, Eminem will sing the National Anthem and halftime will feature The Village People, some of whom will be in wheelchairs as a salute to elderly Medicare victims who will soon be euthanized.. Ben Roethlisberger will not be playing but will be chaperoning a group of women who are in a "sex addict" support group.

The sound system for the entire event, including halftime entertainment is controlled by a hearing impaired group from Las Vegas, Nevada, and all visual components are in the care of a DSB group from Peoria, Illinois.

Christina Aguilera flubs line of national anthem........

WHY, why, why, when there are so many competent professional SINGERS available, who do an oustanding job on the National Anthem, do then find some "airhead" singer, who is an "entertainer" only, probably no voice training, and because of a NAME ONLY, get them to perform. They had a great choir there who could have done so much better, the woman who sang America could have done a better job.

At least she looked nice, no jeans and t-shirt, she said she hoped her love of the country came through, even though she flfubbed the song.

I didn't hear any love of country, just a little airhead who choked. She should have done a duet wirh Roseanne Barr.

The Super Bowl commercials are getting more attention, press and ink, than the Super Bowl itself. GO Networks ........... get that money!

Several Million Dollars Saved - YEA Packers!

Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay Packers!

The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears thus earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.

 By doing so, they saved the Hard-Working, Red Blooded, Taxpaying Americans literally several million dollars of tax money.

How you say?

Simple.

We were told that if the Chicago Bears won that President Obama (and probably his Family) would be attending the Super Bowl to cheer on his hometown team.

Since the Bears lost...the President won't be attending.

The money saved from not using Air Force 1, the limousines, all the additional security, and let's not forget Michelle Obama's entourage, is literally several Million dollars!

Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay Packers at the Super Bowl to show them our gratitude.

Oh...and let's not forget to thank Chicago Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler for his role in the Packer's Success!

With that said...let's circulate this blog to everyone we know so they can understand why they should cheer for America's team...the Green Bay Packers!

A Woman at the Super Bowl

"This is incredible," said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world, and not use it?"

Somberly, the woman says, "Well... the seat actually belongs to me. I was supposed to come here with my husband, but he passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we have not been to together since we got married in 1967."

"Oh I'm sorry to hear that, that's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?" The woman shakes her head, "No, they're all at the funeral."

My Superbowl Opinion

Where are all the Colts?

I am becoming more of the opinion that a lot of pro sports are governed by the networks. They are all entertainment, which needs TV and good ratings, and TV is supported by advertising.


Case in point. Two of the best quarterbacks in the league, throw interceptions in the waning minutes of the game to insure a victory for the whole worlds sympathetic favorite, the Saints.

Poor Brett Favre, who loves to win, drops back to pass, has to make a decision. If he completes the pass, the Vikings will probably kick a field goal, win the game, and eliminate the crowds favorite, the Saints. He did the only thing he could do to insure a Saints victory, throw an interception.

The network bigwigs had decided that they wanted the Saints in the Super bowl. Research had shown that a game between the Saints and the Colts would possibly be the most watched game of all time. Poor New Orleans, all their trouble, and, rising from the ashes, a football team that was the pride of the state, should play in the Super bowl. And after the disaster in Haiti, another underdog, the Saints could speak for all the underdogs in the world.

I think the outcome was pre determined by the execs at the TV network. With the economy as it is, few advertisers withdrew from advertising. I think they were GUARANTEED the biggest audience in history. And that is what they got.

The Colts led at the half, “Quick, get on the phone, call the locker room, tell them that somehow, the Saints must win. The world will be happy, it will help the economy in New Orleans, the people in Haiti will be happy, it may even get a new mayor elected in New Orleans. Tell Peyton that if he wants to keep on making those millions each year, well, he knows what to do. Let him know it’s not like when his Daddy played, TV rules. Let him know that they get to win the game next year, we promise.”

So no last minute heroics, oh, he could have driven down for a winning TD for the Colts, but it was not in the script. It was probably the easiest interception in history. Stevie Wonder could have done it, and it sealed the game for the Saints. Obama was happy, the league was happy, TV was happy, as were the Saints fans. Indianapolis is a small town, they’ll get over it. They get it next year, again, and they already have one trophy.

Just remember, the ball never gets snapped till the TV guy gives the signal. They tell them when to play, you just have to wonder what else they tell them??????????
