Woman of the Year Nomination

I am nominating my wife, Marilyn Dooley, for Woman of the Year.

Along with working, raising a family, taking care of a household, years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After she was diagnosed, her employer, at that time, made strides to terminate her, to save the added insurance cost. So she faced the future with that hanging over her head.

Went through chemo, hair loss, wigs, all of that. And, was a participant in a "trial" program of some kind. Her group was given a drug and don't hold me to the spelling ... Kumodin or Cumodin .... anyway, many in her group, and of course Marilyn, developed Congestive Heart Failure as a result of the medicine.

The Congestive Heart caused problems, which were controlled my her Pacemaker/Defibrillator, which led to the episode Tuesday, of having in SHOCK her, FORTY times that day. Each shock went with a piercing, horrible, SCREAM.

Now, she has had a surgery to "fix" her Pacemaker problem, but our lives will never be the same. Almost like having a gun pointed at our heads, never knowing when it might go off.

We are married almost fifty years, she has delivered three great kids, who in turn have produced both children and great grandchildren.

ALL that she has gone through is deserving of some recognition, she has gone through a lot. I was going to give out her phone number at the hospital, but thought that might get a bit too busy ....

PS: The word I had trouble spelling was NOT the cause of her Congestive Heart Failure, it was another drug. When she had  dizzy spells or something else, that is when she went on that drug. I still get corrected all the time by her, even when she is in the hospital. NOW, after all this time, they are recommending a special diet for her, probably something she should have been on all along. Ain't modern medicine grand??????

Amazing story and photograph ..........

I received this recently. Most are probably aware of it, I obviously, was not. The story is remarkable, the photograph is even more astounding................

A picture began circulating in November. It should be 'The Picture of the Year,' or perhaps, 'Picture of the Decade.' It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the US paper which published it, you probably would never have seen it.


The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by a surgeon named Joseph Bruner.

The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrical nurse in Atlanta ... She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt Univ Med Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity The editors titled the picture, 'Hand of Hope.' The text explaining the picture begins, 'The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr.Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life.'

Little Samuel's mother said they 'wept for days' when they saw the picture. She said, 'The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person. Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful.

Now see the actual picture, and it is awesome....incredible....and hey, pass this blog on. The world needs to see this one!

Your razor and Olive Oil

I have had a few requests to repeat this suggestion. Why people don't do this I cannot understand. I have been doing this since I started shaving, I had seen my Dad do it since I was old enough to stand by the old bathroom sink on 319 South Brown Street in Dayton, Ohio. As many know, my Dad was a Doctor, and in those days all Doctors offices had a sterilizer unit somewhere. They also had white utensils, with lids, where they placed the items in to be sterilized. Well, Dad used one of these to store his straight razor in, and, in that white container (which I am looking at right now, the lid has gotten misplaced, but we have the bottom) he regularly added Olive Oil, and after shaving, his razor would be thoroughly washed, shaken dry, and placed in the Olive Oil.

Why? What is the enemy of metal, air, right, so after he stropped the razor to get it nice and sharp, it was protected from the air by the Olive Oil.

I have a coffee cup in the bathroom with Olive Oil in it, and I get probably three months use from an inexpensive 3-blade throw away razor. I buy 1-3-pack a year. Make sure you wash the razor good, and shake it dry before putting it in the oil. Cooking oil works also.

Make your razors last so much longer, put them in Olive Oil, you will be amazed how much longer they stay sharp.

The Flag in the Window

Saw so many of these during WWII, most had the Blue Star, but occasionally one hanging with the Gold Star, indicated a loss. I was young then, but I remember seeing a Gold Star, and reverently taking a brief moment to bow my head, quietly showing a moment of  respect. I knew the family had suffered a loss in the war. The little flag in the window was quite significant, with either a BLUE or a GOLD star. I always wondered how a Mother could take her  Blue Star flag down, and replace it with a Gold one/

The banner was designed in 1917 by United States Army Captain Robert L. Queisser of the Fifth Ohio Infantry, in honor of his two sons who were serving in World War I. It was quickly adopted by the public and by government officials. On September 24, 1917, an Ohio congressman read into the Congressional Record:


The mayor of Cleveland, the Chamber of Commerce and the Governor of Ohio have adopted this service flag. The world should know of those who give so much for liberty. The dearest thing in all the world to a father and mother — their children.

What a Waste ..........

On Memorial Day I guess it is appropriate to talk about war casualties. I imagine few people are aware of some of these figures. Our casualties in World War II were close to those in the Civil War. That war was brother against brother, or neighbor against neighbor. 212,938 lost in the  Civil War, or as it is listed, the American Civil War, 1861  to 1865. And that was American blood shed on American soil. I recall that this day, Memorial Day, was originally called Decoration Day, in remembrance of those who were lost in the American Civil War.

A proud Mom, and well she should be............

This will go unnoticed by most, was an entry on my Facebook page, there are still "a few good men" .... and women. I think it carries a very heavy message with it. Congratulations Mrs. Mueller, you have every right to be proud. Thanks for sharing the moment ............

Transgender Illegal Alien Detainees Will Get ‘Hormone Therapy’ Courtesy of the US Taxpayer

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the division the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responsible for enforcing the nation’s immigration laws, will provide “hormone therapy” to illegal aliens it has detained who say they are transgender, according to the agency’s operations manual for its detention facilities.

The 2011 Operations Manual ICE Performance-Based National Detention Standards says that all illegal alien detainees shall be screened by a specially trained detention officer within 12 hours of their arrival at the detention facility. The operations manual specifically states that the “screening shall … inquire into a transgender detainee’s gender self-identification and history of transition-related care, when a detainee self-identifies as transgender.”

If the self-professed illegal alien transgender detainee has been receiving hormone therapy on the outside, ICE will give it to him or her on the inside.

“Transgender detainees who were already receiving hormone therapy when taken into ICE custody shall have continued access,” states the report. “All transgender detainees shall have access to mental health care, and other transgender-related health care and medication based on medical need. Treatment shall follow accepted guidelines regarding medically necessary transition-related care.”

They killed Joe Paterno

Joe Paterno passed away today, my guess, he had given up his will to live.  One mistake in judgement erased a lifetime of commitment.

I am watching on TV, a scene from the Penn State campus, a statue of Joe Paterno, people standing there, silently, showing their respect.

A young couple, somber, wearing Penn State sweatshirts, arm in arm, paying their respects at the statue of "Joepa."

There will never be another coach like Joe.

Obama endorses Romney

It was rumored today, by undisclosed sources close to Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee Chairman,  that Barack Obama has officially endorsed Mitt Romney to be the Republican Candidate for President of the United States. One can only assume, why?

Richie Rich Romney - NON-ELECTABLE

We have a new "front runner" for the title of "non-electable."   I have done a 180 and firmly believe that Richie Rich Romney is NON-ELECTABLE. He showed his true colors last night, a spoiled brat. I'm surprised he did lie down on the floor, throw a "temper tantrum," kick his legs and pound his fists on the floor.

I, for one, was appalled at his lack of graciousness. If his father was still alive, I am sure he would have asked him to go "beat up" Newt. "He beat me, Daddy, he beat me."

God forbid, but picture him in the White House, when some country did something that he didn't like. Don't believe the old adage that "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Wrong, in some scenarios, words can lead to a war.

I have looked, and have seen nothing about the Republican Party admonishing him for his lack of "common courtesy and graciousness."

I did some checking on his website and some other venues, no where to get in touch with him. I wanted to send an email. His attitude, "My mind is made up, don't confuse me with the facts."

He is a leader to his immediate group of friends, they like his money, it cannot go any farther than that.

ROMNEY is a SAD excuse for a candidate

I have lost all respect for Romney. I thought his concession speech tonight was the most pathetic, sore loser, commentaries I have ever heard. Talk about a gracious loser.

If Romney ultimately wins the nomination, I think I will vote for Obama, I, for one, certainly would not like to have him as our President. I'm sure the White House, now, would like to see Romney as the Republican candidate. There would be NO concern about the outcome in that case.

I imagine the Mormon Church is appalled at his conduct.

I hope the Republican Party comes out with a statement distancing themselves from him.

I may even throw out all my bluejeans, I want NO association with Mitt Romney.

An even sadder commentary on politics in America.

P.S. He reminded me of a spoiled little rich kid who didn't have his way and was lashing out, hey, actually that is probably what happened ...............
