A Star is Born

It was pure pleasure watching the U.S. Open today. Reminded me of by-gone days. A 22 year old from Ireland won, actually he had won before he started playing today, if, he just did his job. The gigantic crowd stayed to see his victory. On Fathers Day, his Dad was there to see him win, it was great.

Rory Mcllroy will be heard from again, he probably made millions of dollars today, he is a new star. He will be on Leno or one of the late shows, a guest on any show that can nail him down. He may just head back to Ireland though, and lift a few with his chums. I have a hunch he is that sort of a person.

I have seen his named spelled two ways, Mcllroy and McIlroy, but remember it. I think Tiger is a thing of the past, there is a new hero in golfdom, a 22 year old kid from Northern Ireland.

I'm Irish, Dooley on one side, Shannon on the other, I am probably related to him, Cousin Rory, the new, refreshing, golf sensation. Tiger was respected for his golf, I think that Cousin Rory is going to be respected not only for his golf, but for the person he is.

I admit I have been getting tired, of late, watching those young faceless clone golfers, this kid has "it" and has me interested in watching golf again. I choked up a bit, when he won, let his hair down a little, gestured to some friends, waved to his Dad, and then that hug he gave his Dad after the last putt, pure joy,  great to see.

And, he may be my Cousin.
