There are many terms that politicians and office holders use, Fiscally Conservative, Fiscally Responsible, all just words, they ALL, when they get into office, are spending OP Money, OTHER PEOPLES MONEY, and it loses its normal value to them.
When I was working in the Casinos in Nevada, years ago, when we still used silver dollars, if a person bet a dollar, we paid them with a dollar. If they let the two dollars "ride," we paid them with two silver, but if they won, and their next bet was four dollars, if they won that, they got a $5 check and three silver. The rationale, a $5 check has no "value" to them, not like the silver dollar. It was merely a piece of plastic.
I think if the money that politicians spend was "theirs," there would be a difference in spending.
I was "guilty" of it when I was in the Navy, breaking something was no "big deal," just go down somewhere and get another one, the Navy would buy it. I, and I don't think anyone, ever thought, "Gosh, that's my taxpayer money I'm spending."
I heard of a CEO, somewhere, who expected his employees to conserve on and save paper clips. His theory on that, it was a good place to start, and if they started saving those, it might start a whole new savings concept.
Spending "Other Peoples" money is fun. Steal a credit card sometime and see how much fun that is, spending other peoples money. That basically, is what politicians do. And what is even better than that, have a printing press that prints money, how great is that. Just print more. That is what our government is doing now, at all levels, spending Other Peoples money.
They can use all the clever terms they want, they are NOT fiscally responsible, it's not their money they are spending, and they don't seem to care.
"Honey, don't you dare run up our credit card bill today, I have to get to the Senate, we are voting on a BIG spending bill today."
