Jimmy

Many years ago, a relative of ours, in Indiana, had a son. He was a very handsome baby. They were very proud of him. He was a good baby, but never uttered a sound.

As he grew older, the family realize that there was something wrong with his vocal chords, or something. He never uttered a sound, or spoke.

They took him to a Doctor in Marion, who found nothing, but referred them to a specialist in Indianapolis. They made an appointment with the speciialist and took him there. The specialist in Indianapolis, after a thorough examination concluded, "There seems to be nothing wrong with him physically, I cannot understand his inability to speak."

The dejected family returned home, knowing nothing more than they had before.

Another year or so went by, and still not a word or a sound from him.

Then, one Fall morning, at the breakfast table, their Mother had fixed a regular farm breakfast. The family was eating a hushed meal, some thinking about school, others, the work to be done on the farm.

Finally, the young boy, who had never spoken, said, "Mom, these pancakes are cold!"

The astonished Father spoke up, "Jimmy, why, after all these years, you have never spoken a word, why now?"

"Well," Jimmy said, "Up to now, everything has been OK."
