You might think it unlikely that this weekend's switch from daylight saving time (DST) to standard time could throw your cat or dog's busy schedule — eat, sleep, eat, sleep — off-kilter. But, as it turns out, some animals are so in tune with their owners' schedules that falling back an hour can cause our furry friends some confusion.
Just like humans, animals have their own internal clocks that tell them when to eat, sleep and wake up. This biological timekeeper, also known as circadian rhythm, is set in motion by natural sunlight. However, for pets this effect is minimized by the artificial environment they live in, where light comes and goes not only with the rising and setting sun, but most often with the flip of a switch.

Think of the cows: clocks go forward for the last time in Russia
Russia will be on permanent Summer time from Sunday – a move that may find favour in other countries.
Cows will be calmer, doctors happier and crooks less active.
That's the thinking as Russia puts forward its clocks for the last time this weekend.
Leading the way in an incipient global trend that rejects the notion of changing the clocks in spring and autumn, the Russian authorities believe the move will reduce human – and animal – misery.
It means Russia, which stretches across nine time zones from Kaliningrad in Europe to the Kamchatka peninsula in the Pacific, will stay permanently on summer time from this Sunday, gaining extra daylight in the afternoons during its seemingly interminable winter.
The president, Dmitry Medvedev, said Russians were fed up with the time changes because they caused "stress and illnesses" and "upset the human biorhythm".
"It's irritating, people wake up early and don't know what to do with themselves for the spare hour," he said. "And that's not to mention the unhappy cows and other animals that don't understand the clocks changing and don't understand why the milkmaids come to them at a different time."
The only other country in Europe without switches to and from daylight saving time is Iceland, but Belarus and Ukraine are also considering abandoning the system.
Some critics suggested it was a populist move by the Kremlin to distract from more serious social issues, but many experts supported the idea

Comment from Frank Beckman of WJR Detroit
President Obama, his administration, and party, support Egyptians who have killed over 100 people in their demand for political change.
So why do these same people demean those who engage in peaceful political opposition here in the U.S.? ...... Frank Beckman
A very perceptive comment, good for discussion and contemplation and ..........CONCERN
WHY do we give Egypt a BILLION DOLLARS a year?????????? Aid FOR WHAT??????
WHY is Hillary in Haiti and WHY are we rebuilding their country when we have A NEED FOR AID in this country?
We USED TO BE a World Power, we could afford to help others ..... WE are a second or third rate country now ............ we need their help................
WE are still those arrogant Americans, we think we are a SUPER POWER ............. HOW can we be a SUPER POWER when we are partially owned by China and are in debt up to our eyeballs with so much INTERNAL political strife?????????? WE actually have NO money that we could send to any country as AID ..... HOW do we do that anyway, just print up more?????????

Nude Man Clock
I don't know if this is a gay thing or not, somebody sent it to me, someone who has WAY too much time on their hands. It doesn't always come up the first time, so keep trying till it does (that's almost a gay thing too).
If it does appear, tap it and you get another configuration. How would you ever start to design something like that? And all the things he/she could have used, why a nude man?

Ted Williams
NEW YORK — An Ohio man with a "golden voice" who went from homeless to a household name in a matter of days reunited with his mother on Thursday afternoon.
After a Columbus Dispatch photographer shot a video of Ted Williams panhandling along a north side street, job offers have been pouring in for the former DJ.
Williams said drugs and alcohol derailed his life. Williams, who spent time in prison, said he has been sober for two years and is ready to work
"I love it but then at the same time I'm (thinking) so, 'Oh God, what am I supposed to do with this new found fame?'" Williams said.
While in New York, Williams saw his 90-year-old mother, Julia Williams, for the first time in two decades.
He has not seen her in 20 years and said he hoped for this moment for a long time.
"The biggest prayer that I've ever had is I wanted my mom to live long enough for her to see me have a second chance," Williams said.
During an interview with the "CBS Early Show" Julia Williams said she was surprised to hear it was her son that everyone was talking about.
"Someone was talking about the man with the golden voice (and I said), 'Who is that?' Julia Williams said. "That's your son. I'm so proud I want him to do well."
The clip that was filmed by Columbus Dispatch videographer Doral Chenoweth III first appeared on the Dispatch Web site on Monday.
It showed Williams standing near the ramp from Hudson Street and Interstate 71, demonstrating his voice. A sign he held read, "I'm an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times."
10TV and ONN has asked Williams to provide narration for promotional spots during the station's "One Day to End Homelessness" telethon on Jan. 31, according to Frank Willson, the station's director of operations.
Williams has been offered dozens of jobs, including offers from NFL Films, MTV and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has not accepted any offers yet and said he is still shocked by his new-found fame.
I am a bit skeptical about this whole story, why have we heard nothing of his past, nothing from old co-workers, where has he been, I just have a lot of questions. If it sounds too good to be true, perhaps it is. I questions the whole thing, sorry about that, time will tell. Perhaps it is true, just questioning how it all came about. I have heard nothing about where he had been living, or how, where he worked before, all the details, nothing yet. jbd

Sunday Morning Reflections
Sunday, November 7, 2010, 0800, been up since 0700 because of time change and Caleb, our dog. (Previous entry)
Obama is in China. He says he is creating jobs. IF the manufacture EVERYTHING and we have OUTSOURCED all of our manufacturing to them, and then BUY all their products, that does not register with me, just makes it look like he is up to some BS to justify his being there and to blow a little more smoke up our collective butts. Golly, would a politician do that?
SWEEPING CHANGES in the political picture, OPTIMISM abounds ..... probably for a little while and then everything will be back to normal. Now Conservative pockets will get heavy with coin, unemployment will continue to soar, foreclosures will continue to climb, and we will have a lot of families hungry and cold this winter. In Columbus, Ohio, the food pantry is bare. TV stations are trying to generate food donations. Saw them doing that Saturday, not the lines of cars like there once were.
FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL AND NASCAR are still the two hot topics on television, along with pawn shops ..... that's interesting. The economy is bad, people need money, and pawn shop shows become popular on television. I wonder why that is?
POKER is still abundant on TV. I watched a little of a truck race the other night, the stands were almost empty (which they tried not to show) I wonder if TV is supporting NASCAR and all the races?
PICKERS are getting a lot of exposure. People who turn JUNK into cash. A few TV show now on that. I wonder if they are just training the unemployed on one possible means of income ..... BECOME A PICKER.
Years ago, many hears ago, I had a little "crystal set" radio, which I built. At night after getting into bed, I would get that little radio out, adjust the "cat whisker" and listen to WLW out of Cincinnati, Ohio, on the headphones. GLORIOUS to hear Peter Grant and music on those old headphones. We had a Philco and some other radios, but the crystal set, just something about it.
Then, the radio progressed to HI-FI, a radio just wasn't good enough anymore, you needed HI-FI. I know, because the ADS told me. Then ....... STEREO ...... well, what they did was take the old radio signal and split it, so HI-FI died out, and STEREO was the only thing to have. It was like being in the Concert Hall, sitting right down front. Marketing and advertising told us all of that.
Then, the little black and white TV, gigantic set, ten-inch picture, but it was marvelous. Could not wait till the TV came on. WLW out of Cincinnati was still there (we lived in Dayton, Ohio at the time) that was out best station. Still Peter Grant doing the news, but Ruth Lyons and Paul Baby, forget his last name, the Barn Dance, Lulubell and Scotty, we lived by the old black and white TV.
THEN, OMG as the texters say, COLORED TELEVISION in LIVING color, didn't get any better than than that. They TV with SURROUND SOUND .... You had to have it .... four speakers instead of two, great marketing scam.
Now ....... TV in 3D, sitting in our living rooms, wearing the same glasses we wore back in the 50's at some of the movies, I guess that is progress.
NEXT, touring groups of entertainers, sponsored by the TV networks, who will travel around the country, and come to your home, and put on a LIVE SHOW in YOUR living room. The TODAY SHOW may be done right in your dining room. Tom Brokaw may do live news in your den. Or, maybe they will figure out some way to do a 3-D projection in your room, to make it look like they are actually in your room.
Progress, it makes the world go round .......

Time Change and Caleb
I wake up at 8 each morning, almost to the minute. I wake up, look at the clock radio, 8, maybe 1 or 2 minutes, one way or the other.
Shortly after that, I have a nose in my ear, or my face is getting licked, by Caleb, our dog. I get up, put some clothes on, make it to the front door, hook up his leash, and let him out.
I set my clock radio back one hour before going to bed last night, so, this morning, I woke up, looked at the clock, 7, and there was Caleb, looking me right in the eye.
I told him it was only 7, he just looked at me. Again, I told him it was only 7, and then I actually started trying to explain the time thing to him, like he understood, or cared. Then I thought to myself, "Why am I trying to explain this to Caleb," so I got up and let him out, fixed coffee and went on with the day.
I wonder how long this will go on?
