YEA GO TEAM

I am not learned in Psychology, but when and why, did so many people become so associated with sports teams. What is it that causes a well educated successful, company CEO, for example on a Saturday afternoon, to dress in hundreds of dollars of "logo'ed" clothing, Officially Endorsed, of course, maybe even paint his face with appropriate colors, or wear an appropriate costume, drive a million dollar RV, park it, get all set up, cook hundreds of dollars of food, etc., etc., give it away, pay a large amount of money for a seat, or even a box, to sit in below zero weather, to cheer on, his team?

Why should I want to wear a football jersey with someone elses name on the back? Why would I want to be, in any way, associated with a sports team? "Oh I just live for football season."

Why do any of us, HAVE to be associated with something else? Are we that lonely in our own lives? Trillions are spent annually on sports related clothing, probably a bigger business than the game itself. When Manziel signed with the Browns, they could not produce the shirts fast enough, all to wear some other guys name on your shirt, and they are not cheap shirts ..

It is pathetic, in a way, that our lives are so dismal, so isolated, that we have to affiliate ourselves with a sports team, or a rock group, or something. "Oh, I live and die by what the Browns do." "Oh, I just can't wait for football season."

How nice it would be to see the multitudes wearing a shirt, with school colors, maybe with Mr. Johnson on the back, the Physics Teacher at the local high school. "Man, he's the greatest, he got me interested in Engineering, he worked with me, helped me, I got in to college because of his help and now I am an Engineer, he's the greatest."

We will never see that, no math teachers on "baseball type cards." Thousands will never watch a Spelling Bee. No BIG trophies for some young lady, who worked her way through college, has her degree, and now, wants to be a Teacher, to help others, to succeed. My Aunt, my Mother's Sister, Eva, taught piano in Marion, Indiana. Taught hundreds how to play the piano, probably $5 a lesson. I don't know of any of her students, what they became, how successful they were. I heard that one or two of her students became pianists for some vocal groups, one became rather famous as a Rock Star. One has written some popular music, and a few became music instructors and teachers.

Eva is gone, but in some respects, her music lives on. No one every wore a jersey with her name on it, but her life's contribution was well worthy of one .... a black and white jersey, perhaps a piano on the front and a big SHANNON on the back.
