Tomorrow is 9/11 .... I will never forget when I saw that building collapsing, and that cloud of dust. Almost the same feeling as I had in my stomach on December 7, 1941.
Since that date, I have had the privilege of meeting Gil Vargas, my Brother in law, who was with the NYPD at that time, I am still in awe of him and what he must have experienced that day. I got chills talking with him about it at Brad's wedding. I could not conceive of the emotions he must have experienced that day. At that time, he related that he had not been able to move his clothing from where he took it off in his closet. They were his personal memorial to that day.
Also learned that our son's wife, Bernie, witnessed the whole event from her window, not far from the WTC.
What great new family members we acquired on the day Brad married Bernie.
In my opinion only, I think the debris and the hole should have been left, as a memorial. Building another "target," to me, was asking for retaliation and another disaster. What better memorial and tribute than to view the aftermath and result of the disaster. At Pearl Harbor, we left a sunken ship.
I will do nothing exceptional to mark the day. I will, however, kneel by my bed tomorrow night, pray for the safety and preservation of our country, that He watch over all my family and friends, and that I may live through the night, to see 9/12.
