Former Lions great Alex Karras dies at 77
Former All-Pro Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alex Karras passed away this morning in Los Angeles at the age of 77.
Karras had been given just days to live after recently experiencing kidney failure. In recent years, Karras had been bravely battling kidney disease, heart disease, stomach cancer and dementia.

For those too young to remember, Alex Karras was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the history of the NFL and the Detroit Lions' franchise, voted to the all-decade team for the 1960s and was named a four-time Pro Bowl DT.
Now, the 77-year-old Karras is fighting for his life as he deals with failing kidneys on top of the dementia and cancer he has faced in the last several years.
Besides his stellar play in the NFL, Karras was also a part of the over 3,000 former NFL players suing the NFL over the long-term effects of concussions on players.
As great as his playing career and his impact on the league has been over his lifetime, it was his time acting and broadcasting that made him a household name later in his career.
After becoming the Monday Night Football announcer for three years, Karras took roles in hit movies like Porky’s, Centennial and his best role (in my opinion) as Mongo in the Mel Brooks' classic Blazing Saddles.
Karas also found huge success after he starred in the hit TV show Webster in the 80s.
On and off the field, Karras has an extensive legacy that can never be forgotten.

Executive Order 13603
I am printing this for a number of reasons. I know that some local government agencies, actually a police department, handed memos to their officers suggestions they stock up on food and water in anticipation of "something" happening. I am trying to get a copy of it so I can be more specific. This is "scary" and is something that everyone should be aware of. Times have changed
One morning, early, I took my Polaroid in and took some fotos of my crew on the crap table, no flash though, and I got yelled at for taking those.
Someone might have gotten photographed yesterday who should not have been there, maybe with his girlfriend, or his boss didn't know, could be trouble for someone.
We had some promotion photographs shot inside the Nevada Club one day, everyone was warned, and some more visible folks signed release forms.

Felix Baumgartner aims to make history today as the first person to achieve supersonic speed in free-fall.
As if that weren't enough, he will be starting his descent from higher than anyone else has ever ascended in a manned balloon flight: 120,000 feet, or 23 miles above the Earth.
The daredevil's jump comes after years of preparation and delays, and replete with a full array of high-tech gear, from the 2,900-pound "space capsule" slung under a 550-foot-tall (at launch) helium balloon that will carry him aloft in an approximately 2-hour ascent, to the custom-made full-pressure suit that will protect him from the very real dangers of the thin and frigid air.
Sensors in a chest pack will log all the relevant data for vetting by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the body that governs air sports and aviation records. Gear in the pack includes GPS tracking device, inertia measurement unit, HD camera, and voice transmitter and receiver.

The Bluebird .........
NEW YORK (AP) -- Walmart Stores Inc. and American Express are rolling out a prepaid card that they say offers unique services designed to help shoppers manage and control their everyday finances.
The two companies said Monday that Bluebird, begun during a pilot program late last year, acts like a checking account but without the fees that have increasingly frustrated shoppers. It will have no minimum balance and no monthly, annual or overdraft fees. They say the only fees that will be associated with the card will be transparent and within the user's control, such as out of network ATM withdrawals by consumers who don't use direct deposit.
Instead, what Bluebird will be loaded with is a number of features, including the ability to deposit a check to one's Bluebird account by simply taking a picture with a smart phone. It will also offer the same fraud protections in an event the card is stolen or lost as other standard cards.
The move comes as American Express is looking for new ways to expand its customer base beyond its traditional wealthy clientele. For Walmart, the Bluebird service is the latest financial product offering to be pushed by the world's largest retailer, but it's also the most comprehensive.
Bluebird's rollout also signals how competition for pre-paid cards, once the domain of non-bank companies, is heating up.

Something NEW from WALMART???????
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc and American Express will hold a conference call on Monday to make a financial services announcement, the two companies said in a statement on Sunday.
Details of the announcement, which will take place at 8:30 a.m. EST, were not disclosed.
Walmart, the world's largest retailer, has long tried to serve the large group of its low-income shoppers who have little or no access to credit. The retailer offers check cashing at low rates and other services as it tries to appeal to shoppers without bank accounts.
Walmart has said in the past that about 85 percent of transactions at its U.S. stores are paid for with cash.
They crossed the line
But it shouldn't. Not when it's cruel. Not when it's inhumane.
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was knocked to the ground for several minutes in the fourth quarter of his team's home loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and the Kansas City fans cheered. Not just a few, either. Hundreds and possibly thousands were clearly thrilled Cassel was rendered incapable of playing.
It was enough to move Chiefs offensive lineman Eric Winston to call an impromptu news conference in the locker room and send a clear message to those who were happy about his teammate's head injury.
"When you cheer," Winston said, "when you cheer somebody getting knocked out, I don't care who it is, and it just so happened to be Matt Cassel – it's sickening. It's 100 percent sickening. I've been in some rough times on some rough teams, I've never been more embarrassed in my life to play football than in that moment right there."

We had the Coming of Christ, now, we have the Coming of a Casino, in Columbus, Ohio. We are saved, all our problems are over. The powers to be have decided on how to split the revenue, and the world is looking good. Many people put to work, dealers, chefs, cooks, cashiers, slot mechanics, OOOOHHHHH life is good in Columbus, Ohio, THE CASINO OPENS TODAY.
All those customers can get their savings out and leave them at THE CASINO. OH, so that is where all that money comes from, people, people who work for their money get paid, and take it to THE CASINO and leave it there. So, that's how it works. People losing money. Is that a good thing? Apparently it is.
You mean that people lose their hard earned money to support the CASINO and then that revenue goes back to the state, AFTER the casino owners take their "cut." I wonder if they count fair. Where does all that money come from to build all those plus casinos over the countryside. GOSH they must make a lot of money.
Someone once said that a "Gambling License" is a license to steal, is that true?
Christ gave hope to the world, so do the casinos. How sad is that?

Fungal meningitis
The New England Compounding Center announced the recall Saturday. The company said in a news release that the move was taken out of an abundance of caution because of the risk of contamination. It says there is no indication that any other products have been contaminated.
The Food and Drug Administration had previously told health professionals not to use any products distributed by the center.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted updated figures to its website Sunday showing there are 91 confirmed cases of the rare form of fungal meningitis. The outbreak spans nine states and has killed at least seven people.
The states with reported cases are: Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.
The steroid linked to the outbreak had already been recalled, and health officials have been scrambling to notify anyone who may have received an injection of it. The Massachusetts pharmacy that made it has said it is cooperating with investigators.

GAS gone mad .....................
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gasoline prices in California rose to another all-time high on Sunday after passing a four-year high a day earlier, according to AAA.
The four-cent-per-gallon jump Sunday was even bigger than Saturday's jump, which was just a fraction of a penny.
AAA reported in its latest update on Sunday that the statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $4.655. Saturday's average of $4.6140 was the highest since June 19, 2008, when it was $4.6096.
Sunday's price, like Saturday's, was the highest in the nation, with the Golden State leapfrogging Hawaii this week as the state with the most expensive fuel due to a temporary reduction in supply.
Californians are paying 24 cents per gallon more than motorists in Hawaii, according to the AAA report. In some locations, fuming motorists paid $5 or more per gallon while station owners had to shut down pumps in others.
"I seriously thought it was a mistake on the sign when we pulled in," said Nancy Garcia, 34, while filling her Honda Accord at a Chevron station in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park. She paid $4.65 a gallon for regular grade and said she couldn't afford to fill her tank all the way.

Unexpected find on the football field
Virginia Tech receiver Dyrell Roberts made an odd discovery on the field against North Carolina, when he found a pair of scissors on the field just before the Hokies ran a play.
As Virginia Tech was lining up, Roberts started gesturing to the sideline and the officials with something in his hand. He had found the scissors as he took his spot on the field. That's something you don't see every day. In fact, we can't remember ever seeing it before in a college football game.
Officials stopped the action and let Roberts run the scissors off to the sideline. Not only did he run with them, he didn't hold the scissors by the blades. That breaks just about every safety rule Roberts was taught in kindergarten about scissors, but at least he didn't run a pass route with them.
