Michigan man accused of trying to toss drug-packed football into prison

Someone from Ohio will make a comment about this incident. The same thing happened at an Ohio prison and the ball sailed over the wall and was caught by prisoner Bronco Dante.

(Reuters) - A Michigan man faces felony charges for allegedly trying to hurl a football stuffed with heroin and cell phones into a state prison yard, a corrections department spokesman said on Tuesday.

The man hopped out of a vehicle on Sunday morning and heaved the football, which landed short, between two security fences at a state prison in Jackson, Michigan, about 75 miles (120 km) west of Detroit, prisons spokesman Russ Marlan said.

"From where he was throwing, it would not have been that difficult of a throw to throw it in ... but you don't know how heavy it was," Marlan said.

The football had been sliced open, stuffed with drugs, phones and chargers and stitched back together, Marlan said.

The man, identified as Christen Deon-Sterling Moore of Detroit by the Detroit Free Press, was charged with furnishing contraband and cell phones to prisoners.

A prison officer apprehended the would-be quarterback and the driver after seeing him toss the football and turned them over to Michigan State Police, Marlan said.

It was not clear who the intended receiver was, Marlan said.

YOU said it ........... Coach .....................

Winthrop had a basketball game with Ohio State last night. In a  post game interview, their coach made the below comments. You can also listen to his comments HERE. The team has been on the road, and he has not seen his family since before last Friday.
There is no doubt the killing of 20 elementary school students and six of their teachers and administrators struck Kelsey hard. He has 4 and 5-year-old daughters at home and he referred to them in his powerful message.

“The last thing I wanna say is I’m really, really lucky, ’cause I’m gonna get on an eight-hour bus ride, and I’m gonna arrive in Rock Hill, S.C., and I’m gonna walk into my house, and I’m gonna walk upstairs, and I’m gonna walk into two pink rooms, OK, with a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old laying in that pink room, with a bunch of teddy bears laying in that room.
“And I’m gonna give them the biggest hug and the biggest kiss I’ve ever given them. And there’s 20 families in Newtown, Conn., that are walking into a pink room with a bunch of teddy bears with nobody laying in those beds. And it’s tragic.
“And I don’t know what needs to be done. I’m not smart enough to know what needs to be done, OK? I know this country’s got issues. Is it a gun issue? Is it a mental illness issue? Or is it a society that has lost the fact, the understanding, that decent human values are important?
“And our leaders – I didn’t vote for President Obama. But you know what? He’s my president now. He’s my leader. I need him to step up. Mr. Boehner, the Speaker of the House, he’s a Xavier guy, he’s a Cincinnati guy, OK, he needs to step up.
“Parents, teachers, rabbis, priests, coaches, everybody needs to step up. This has to be a time for change. And I know this microphone’s powerful right now, because we’re playing the fourth-best team in the country. I’m not going to have a microphone like this the rest of the year, maybe the rest of my life.
“And I’m going to be an agent of change with the 13 young men I get to coach every day and the two little girls that I get to raise. But hopefully things start changing, because it’s really, really disappointing.
“I’m proud to grow up American. I’m proud to say I’m part of the greatest country ever. And that’s got to stay that way. And it’ll stay that way if we change. But we gotta change.”

"Something''s just not right at Ohio State ..."

Ohio State made news earlier this year after snagging some of the nation's best recruits for its February signing class. Coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes were off to a similarly strong recruiting start this year, but one recruit's encounter with a fan caused him to pull his commitment.
Alex Anzalone, one of the nation's top linebacking recruits, committed to Ohio State last month, but decommitted Friday after learning he and several other recruits had unknowingly met a convicted sex offender.
During Anzalone's visit to Columbus, Ohio on April 21, he and two other recruits posed for a picture with Charles Eric Waugh of Ashland, Ky., and the photo made its way to Twitter. Only later did Anzalone learn Waugh, 31, had pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of underage sexual content in 2008. Waugh has had several interactions with players and recruits both in person and through social media.
Anzalone called assistant coach Luke Fickell on Friday to let him know that because of that interaction, he would not be attending Ohio State.
"There's a disconnect between what Alex thought was there (at Ohio State) and what is actually there," said Anzalone's father, Dr. Sal Anzalone,  on Friday.
"Something's just not right at Ohio State. It's not for him."

Backward turn backward ...

A beautiful sunny May morning in Ohio, and in just a glance, I was taken back many, many years. Across from us, here in the apartments, we have some young ladies living, and attending our local Ohio State branch college.   Their car just pulled in, and three young ladies, casually dressed, backpacks on their backs, got out of the car and went in to the apartment. They seemed carefree, with nothing on their minds, and a whole world ahead of them.

In an instant, I was taken back to my college days. I should have been more serious then, but life was too good. I could relate to how those young ladies were feeling. The weather is grand, the sun is shining and the future looks rosy.

Backward turn backward, oh time in thy flight......

Big Ten coaches upset with Urban Meyer's recruiting tactics

Erick Smith

I remember his reputation in Florida, he is up to his old tricks .... "old ways die hard"
OSU may have gone from the "frying pan into the fire" .... Woody, Bo, and Joe, they, and their ethics, are gone ....................

The dust has settled on Urban Meyer's first recruiting class at Ohio State, and there are some hard feelings from some Big Ten coaches.

One issue is Meyer's strategy of poaching commitments from other conference schools.

In the two months after being hired by the Buckeyes, Meyer managed to flip several players, including defensive Se'Von Pittman from Michigan State and offensive lineman Kyle Dodson from Wisconsin.

Spartans coach Mark Dantonio, a Zanesville native and former Ohio State assistant, wasn't pleased.

"They've got a new coach, and it's different," Dantonio told The Detroit News. "I would say it's pretty unethical, in the end."

Meyer also took advantage of Penn State's disarray following the firing of coach Joe Paterno which led to the Buckeyes grabbing All-USA defensive lineman Tommy Schutt and linebacker Camren Williams from the Nittany Lions.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema, like Dantonio, was unhappy about the developments and was proactive about addressing his concerns about Meyer.

"There are a few things that happened early on that I made people aware of that I didn't want to see in this league, that I had seen take place in other leagues," Bielema told CBS Chicago. "Other recruiting tactics, other recruiting practices that are illegal.

"I was very up front and was very pointed to the fact, actually reached out to coach Meyer and shared my thoughts and concerns with him. The situation got rectified."

He later added that he was happy the Big Ten coaches held itself to a different standard.

"Our league is based on certain values that we're going to hold to be true and if you don't hold those to be true, you are going to be held accountable."
