Oh, hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you .............

The government is shut down and thousands of government workers have been sent home. But will it save any money?
The shutdown in during the Clinton Presidency cost taxpayers about $1.5 billion in 22 days. According to IHS Global Insight, the shutdown could cost the U.S. economy $1.6 billion per week — and NBC News reported that the shutdown would cost $12.5 million per hour.

Here are seven things that the government, in all its wisdom, has opted to do during the current shutdown.

1. Federal agencies created new websites to tell visitors that they don’t have enough funding to run their old websites.
2. The feds shut down the parking lot of Mt. Vernon, but not the park itself.

3. A D.C-area canal is closed and had all the pumps taken off of it.

4. Angry moms launch full-scale assault to reopen D.C. turtle park.

5. Not closing parks near Democratic senators’ houses.

6. Posting park rangers at the WWII memorial to prevent rogue veterans from getting in.

7. The Department of Defense is postponing the Navy-Air Force football game.

NRA gets on board ...........

After a last-ditch appeal by the White House fell flat Tuesday, House Speaker John Boehner told reporters this morning that he will proceed on a vote Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for withholding certain documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-walking operation.

"The United States government ran a gunrunning operation that has resulted in hundreds of deaths," Boehner, R-Ohio, said. "Brian Terry's family has a right to know what happened. The American people have a right to know what happened and we're going to proceed."

The contempt resolution passed out of committee strictly down party lines and the debate Thursday promises to be a bitter dispute as well. Propounding the partisanship is the National Rifle Association, which announced last week it "will consider this vote in our future candidate evaluations."

While that warning could persuade some Democrats to vote with the GOP, Boehner said the NRA has "no role" in the contempt vote as far as he's concerned, but rather the unprecedented move "is about getting to the truth."

Obama: Government ‘Made This Country Great’

Who's on First .... If anyone understands the below two statements, please reply to joedooley@yahoo.com and explain them to me. I was having a pleasant Sunday morning, the sun came out, then I read this, and my head is spinning, round and round .......... made me think of Abbot and Costello, or a Bob Newhart telephone conversation. I must admit, my mind cannot comprehend to content  of the statement.

President Obama attacked Republicans for their desire to cut the government spending that “made this country great,” while also faulting them for failing to “balance the budget.”

Obama said that Republicans have “one message and that is, we’re going to make sure that we cut people’s taxes even more — so that by every objective measure our deficit is worse and we will slash government investments that have made this country great,” he argued, “not because it’s going to balance the budget, but because it’s driven by our ideological vision about how government should be. That’s their agenda, pure and simple.”

Suggestion For the New Year

Let's take steps in 2011 to Outsource ALL GOVERNMENT activities to WALMART. They are in or near all towns and cities so they could take over all Municipal Government, move their headquarters to Washington to take over the Federal Government. They do things RIGHT which is something we do not see in our present Government. Let's just let Walmart run it.

5 good thoughts

These are probably the 5 best sentences you'll ever read. This is one paragraph that should be in every book in every school room in every city in every state in our great Union . Our educators should make a lesson plan on this one statement and beat these words into every head in every class in every state in these United States of America :

· You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

· What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

· The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

· When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

· You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Madoff for Treasury Secretary .......

A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to investors from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors rather than from any actual profit earned.

The Ponzi scheme usually offers returns that other investments cannot guarantee in order to entice new investors, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent.

The perpetuation of the returns that a Ponzi scheme advertises and pays requires an ever-increasing flow of money from investors in order to keep the scheme going.

The system is destined to collapse because the earnings, if any, are less than the payments. Usually, the scheme is interrupted by legal authorities before it collapses because a Ponzi scheme is suspected or because the promoter is selling unregistered securities.

As more investors become involved, the likelihood of the scheme coming to the attention of authorities increases.

I have re-read this a number of times. Is it not basically what our GOVERNMENT is doing?

Maybe we should put Madoff in as Secretary of the Treasury, or some similar position, at least an advisor, instead of in Prison.

NOW, through the internet, he can show thousands, maybe millions, how to do what he did.

Remember Captain Crunch? The phone company wishes they had hired him rather than send him to jail, cost them millions.

He is smarter than some of the SMARTEST, he would be a cinch in Washington

FARMLAND can be purchased at a low rate, because it is zoned Agriculture.

Developers purchase the land at this low price.

The government spends their money, puts in roads and improvements.

The developer then get the land rezoned to residential, some commercial.

And then, sells the land for a GIGANTIC profit, the percentage is staggering.

That is one reason developers and realtors, in some cases, make so much money.

And, the farms are gone, turned in to communities and shopping centers.

How long can this go on ........................?????
