You had to be there .................

Today was our monthly visit to the lab at the hospital for my wife to have her blood work done. I was sitting in the waiting room alone while she went into the lab. I was sitting there watching "The View," with no sound on, which almost made it bearable. The show is not too bad if you don't have to listen to them talk.

Anyway, I was sitting there and I heard a faint, "Hey, how's it goin?" I looked around, the room was empty, and then I heard it again, "Hey, how you doin?" Well, I was sitting next to a gigantic fish tank, one inch thick glass, L shaped, probably six foot in length. And I looked, and there was this  bluish gray fish, looking at me, well, what to do, I asked back, "Was that you?"

"Yea, ain't nobody else in this room, how's everything goin with you?"

"Not too bad, but, how do you do that. You are in water behind glass, and I hear you talk."

"I'm telepathic."

"Oh. Ah, how do you like  it in there?"

"It ain't too bad, gets a little boring, just swimmin around, no place to go, really nothin to do but watch that  TV all day. I generally nap during The View and Doctor Oz. Don't know how you guys can listen to that stuff."

"Hey, I don't, I'm stuck here waiting for my wife, no controller, at least no sound, I don't listen to it at home."

"Yeah, I seen you in here before, there was always other people, so I didn't want you to look bad, you now, talkin to a fish an all, kinda crazy."

"What's with that big fish, he just sits in that corner, nose to the glass, looking out, is he Ok?"

"We're not sure, you know, a while back they put some new fish in here, and Igor, that's what we call him, well he used to swim on your side there, back and forth, back and forth, and these new guys came, he switched sides, an now, he just stares, not sure what he's lookin at."

"Maybe its the salt water."

"No, we all came from  salt water, I lived down near the Bahamas, nice down there, a guy came by with a net one time, swoosh, and here I am in Newark, Ohio, fifth floor of the hospital, just swimmin round and round."

"Why doesn't that big guy eat all the little ones?"

"Good question, we kinda figured he was a vegetarian or somethin like that, he ain't tried to eat any of us, ya know, he's kinda big and could do it if he tried, so we don't mention anything to him about it."

"Here comes my wife, I gotta go, we'll be back in a month, catch you then."

"Don't care for that phrase, "catch you," you know what I mean, a see ya later will do."

"Right, see you later."

Fish for Obama

I waited in a waiting room yesterday for my wife to get her B12 shot. In the waiting room is a gigantic salt water fish tank. It was placed in the hospital as a memorial for a man I knew by his daughter and her husband. It is quite large and has about fifteen or twenty fish in it. Hard to count, they keep swimming and swimming. I am mesmerized watching them and it is almost hypnotic.

I started a conversation with the largest fish, nothing else to do and he seemed like he wanted to talk. Naturally, our conversation got around to politics and the recent election. Turned out he, and all the fish for that matter, were Democrats and voted for Obama.

"Hey," he stated, "We are a very diverse group here, big fish, little fish, many different colors, many from different countries, all thrown together in this gigantic tank, all just swimming around. We don't have to work, we get to do whatever we want, we have everything we want, sure we voted for Obama, he's taking care of us."

"Life is good here," he went on to add, "we don't need a thing, all of our needs are taken care of, how great is that, why would we want change?"

No wonder he won again, even the fish voted for him.

Whole Foods -- Way to go .....

WHOLE FOODS
Oh buoy! As of Earth Day 2012, we no longer carry red-rated wild-caught fish in our seafood departments! It’s our way of supporting our oceans and helping to reverse overfishing trends.
We give you the whole story on the wild-caught fish we sell. Wild-caught seafood from fisheries certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the top choice for sustainability and we offer the widest selection available.
We display the color-coded sustainability ratings of our partners, Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA) and Blue Ocean Institute (BOI), on all wild-caught seafood that’s not certified by MSC to help customers make informed choices. And we only carry green- and yellow-rated choices. Red ratings typically suggest that the fish is over fished or caught in ways that harm other marine life or habitats.
We promised to eliminate all wild-caught seafood from red-rated fisheries and we did it—ahead of our deadline. We’ve always been on the leading edge with our commitment to responsibly caught seafood. Years ago we stopped selling species that were extremely depleted in the oceans, such as orange roughy, shark and bluefin tuna.
