Well, I admit it, I did it!

My rear view mirror on my windshield came off. I've got the two outside mirrors, so no big problem.

I check on-line, no BIG deal to re-glue it. Clean the piece off that is glued to the windshield, re-glue it. Best done when the windshield is warm, so I have waited for the weather to warm up

I went to Auto-Zone yesterday and got the glue for the mirror. He told me how to do it all, clean this, use this little wipe on the glass before you glue the part on. He joked, said, "Make sure you get the glue on the right side."

Well, I got it glued on yesterday, let it set overnight to "cure" good.

Went out this morning to put the mirror on the little clip I glued on the glass. It would not stay. Then, it hit me, I was looking at the same side of the little piece that I had so diligently cleaned yesterday. I PUT IT ON BACKWARDS.

Can anyone advise me on how to get the little "holder" piece off?

Oh, it's just another one of the many stupid things I have done.

Thieves have a new way to steal from you now!

I am posting this,  I think it is worth knowing.
"Wednesday, I approached my truck from the passenger  side to place my computer bag in the front passenger seat. As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a  hole right under my door handle.
My first thought was, "someone has shot my truck !"

I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and the light" slowly began to come on.

I phoned my friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.

"Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and  place it right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and unlock  it, just as if they have a key. "

No alarms, broken glass or anything.

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to him I was puzzled that they left my GPS  and all other belongings.

Here is where it gets scary !

"Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so  subtle that you don't even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where "home" is. Now they know what you drive, go to your home, and if your vehicle isn't there they
assume you aren't and break in your home."

He says they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one or two credit cards.

By the time you realize there has been a theft, they  may have already had a couple days or more to use them.

I didn't realize my situation for two full days! They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.

Periodically walk around your car, daily if you are in a shopping center or other parking area.

Report thefts immediately....your bank w/missing check  numbers, your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

Winter Tips

Lock
De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved!

Windshield
Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.

Car doors
Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel. The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber

Windows
Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing!

Wipers
Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity.

Headlights
Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6 weeks.

Why is it?

I like, and watch, a lot of old movies.

Why is it, that during a car chase, the driver always turns his head completely around, either way, to look at the car chasing them, rather than just looking in the rear view mirror, or the outside mirror, for that matter.

It's a wonder there weren't more head on collisions.

Just wondering...............
