When, where and how, did it become so popular to wear "logo" clothing, now a multi billion dollar industry.
I remember when you gave your sweetheart your letter sweater, or a letter jacket, that one was awarded for prowess in athletics. There was little other logo emblazoned wearing apparel. Occasionally someone would "borrow" a piece of clothing, "Property of" ... I remember in high school I bought an "Oakwood" belt buckle and wore it proudly.
I don't remember when the "fad" started. I am not sure of the history of "Silk Screening" ... but I imagine in coincided with the logo craze. I even remember seeing "Licensed by."
What is it that makes a rational person want to wear a football jersey, with large letters on the back saying .... MANNING, representing a team located thousands of miles away .... that the person actually has no connection with.
I remember one player ran "afoul" of something, they offered to take returns, and thousands were returned, many thousands.
