Boston, a year ago ..

I was watching when the bomb exploded in Boston I was watching when the airplane flew into the building in New York City, Washington and Penenyslvania. I have forgotten what other disasters I have witnessed, but there have been a number of opportunities for me to see them.

I forget the war we watched the start of, it was televised, and it seemed surreal, "Hurry up with the popcorn, the war is about ready to start." I think, I vaguely remember listening to the radio and hearing the Hindenburg Disaster, I have heard it many times since, so not sure. I do remember hearing Orson Wells and his radio broadcast, I think I was six or seven, but I remember fear, genuine fear. Radio was better television, than television. A picture in the mind is much more vivid than one the eye sees. The mind and the imagination comes in to play listening to the radio, emotions the eye does not respond to as well.

We are seeing more and more "disastrous" events each day, they are becoming commonplace. The person, I was going to say woman or lady, but none adequately describe what she did. It is beyond any comprehension to suffocate so many lives, lives that nurtured in her body. I purposely have not done a blog on her, it is beyond my comprehension. It was as horrendous a disaster, unbelievable, incomprehensible, as any, but not as acceptable for television.

Television, in many ways, determines the "enormity" of a disaster. I think also, that if an event occurs on a "slow news day," it receives much better coverage. It is a monumental logistics mire, to fully cover a disaster. Give some thought to that, and you will agree. I am a worrier, and anticipate and wonder what will happen next, when the news is slow. At least, television writers do not have the depth of intelligence to create disasters, that can easily be contrived in some minds. What next?

I have seen many disasters in my time, and each new one is more grievous than the last. I am somewhat surprised, but not shocked, as they continue to unfold in our lives....
