The Gentlemen's Championship - Wimbledon Finals

Getting ready to watch the Men's Wimbledon Finals,   actually, they refer to it as The Gentleman's Championship," one of the great events in sports. It is almost a national holiday in England. Tradition galore, I personally think it is really great, nice to see tradition honored. A gigantic crowd on hand, a crowd sitting outside watching it on a large screen. The two competitors are walking out to the court, they are actually great friends and have been opposing each other since they were children. They just appeared on the court, great cheering. I love tradition, I wish we had more such events in this country. Maybe we are too diverse.

We have the Super Bowl, the World Series and such, but now, they are just television shows of sporting events. This is a sporting event that is televised, BIG difference. No rap bands, no "halftime" antics, ALL of the people, in attendance and on television, are watching for one reason, to see two fine athletes compete against each other.

I was trying to think of the last time I even heard the word, "Gentlemen" used on television.

I do love tradition.
