I remember my first big reunion. I went away to college, and had to leave "Dodie" at home. I was in love, she was a student nurse, and I went far away, to The Citadel, which was in Charleston, South Carolina, and had to leave her in Dayton, Ohio.
I flew home for Thanksgiving, the plane landed at Vandalia, the Dayton area airport. Now, where I went to school, a military school, West Point style uniforms, like the above, but in Wintertime we bought beautiful, heavy topcoats, with a red lined cape. Only Seniors could show the full red. Freshman, no red showing at all, then each year, show the left, then the right, then as a senior, the full red.
Since the plane did its turn, I was looking straight ahead, to where my family was standing, they were to my left. Dodie came running out, full speed, I was not looking her way, we me and I fell sharply on my backside. I looked so superb, standing up, not so statuesque after sitting in a puddle of water. Up to that point I was very impressed with myself.
