Just wondering, when and why, did it happen, that so many people, have to be so involved in so many things. I just ran some errands. There was Little League, a Heisey Glass Show, a Car Show, and a number of other events taking place. WHY is it so important that people have to be "involved."
The early pioneers went to church and grange meetings. Maybe they went in to town on Saturday night, and visited with others walking around the square, or whatever. During the week they ran the store or worked in the fields, or around the farm. They kept busy, but is was necessary.
Ironic, in a way. Now we have the Internet, Television and seemingly an endless supply of books to read, yet, everyone has to join something, go to a meeting somewhere, take the kids somewhere. Who is reading that plethora of books that are being printed?
Why do we have to "join" something. Look at all the International Clubs, Lions, Elks, Moose, Rotary, so many. Can anyone anymore live without companionship, or camaraderie?
Is it for "support" or companionship or what?
Right now, thousands of people are standing in the sun, in a carefully mowed field, called a golf course, watching many millionaires, hit a small white ball, with the head of a stick, trying to put it in a hole. And they payed many dollars to be able to watch them do it. and they get excited and yell and applaud when they put it in the hole. I'm sure they even have people and facilities readily available, for when people pass out from the heat and the sun, and maybe from the fermented beverages they consume. Now, really, how intelligent is that?
Many thousands of others are sitting in the sun, watching boys hit a different ball with a bigger stick, and yelling and screaming when they hit the ball and run around, touching small pillows laying on the ground.
My Dad used to call card playing, "mental masturbation," and I think he was right. There is a lot of that going on, all around us. I don't recall standing quietly in a funeral home, and hearing someone go over a list of all the things, the deceased had done. Realistically, we are on this earth for a short period of time ... we come and then we go, in the blink of an eyelash.
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."

Television is one daylong commercial interrupted periodically by inept attempts to fill the airspace in between them.If you can't start a fire, perhaps your wood is wet ....
