Oh, the memories this brought back. I was jogging around on the Internet and found this photograph. It is a Stromberg-Carlson, and we had one in our home, back in the 1940's. As near as I can tell, the exact one.
It was a radio and a phonograph, but a unique feature, we could record on it, make records. I still have a stack of them. They were small, not sure what material they used way back then. We spent many hours around that radio.
We had many friends who learned of our recording capabilities, came over, and we recorded their messages that were mailed to their relatives and friends who were in the service overseas. Most USO facilities had equipment that would both record and play the records.
There have been many "precious memories" recorded on that old machine. I don't have a turntable anymore, so I can't play them. Some day I would love to play those old records and get them on a disc. Voices and memories from seventy years ago.
