Thomas Mark Harmon

Thomas Mark Harmon (born September 2, 1951) is an American actor. Since the mid-1970s, he has appeared in a variety of television, film and stage roles following a brief career as a collegiate football player with the UCLA Bruins. Since 2003, Harmon has starred as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the hit CBS series NCIS. Show below he has his own "star,"

I place him on a very select list I have of true "professionals." I give him high marks in both his professional and personal life. My list is small, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Orr, John Havlicek, and a few others. At this time it does not include any politicians and probably never will.

Back in the mid 50's the Harmon family occasionally visited Reno and stayed at the Mapes Hotel. I saw the family on a few occasions walking around town. Mom, Dad, Tom Harmon, All American from Michigan, the three kids and as I recall a nanny or nurse of some kind. I was in awe of his Dad, being an avid football fan. Tom Harmon, from Michigan, played on a Saturday in the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio. They were rivals, not just rivals, the two schools took rivalry to the next level, or two. People in Columbus with never say that word ....... MICHIGAN. ..... and perhaps, vice versa.

In his final football game against Ohio State, Harmon led the Wolverines to a 40–0 victory, scoring three rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, four extra points, intercepting three passes, and punting three times for an average of 50 yards. In an unprecedented display of sportsmanship and appreciation, the Ohio State fans in Columbus gave Harmon a standing ovation at game's end. No other Wolverine player has been so honored, before or since. Unless you live in or around these two states, you have no idea what an accomplishment that was, there is none higher. He also won the Heisman Trophy.

Mark Harmon comes from exceptionally good stock. He deserves every award he receives.

I think I remember listenting to this game in 1940, I was only 8, but as I recall, my Dad was listenting to it on the old Philco radio, and I sat there listenting with him.

He, of course, is the Father of NCIS boss, Leroy Jethroe Gibbs, or better known as Mark Harmon, who is married to actress Pam Dawber.

*Passed for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns
*Rushed for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns
*Averaged 50 yards a punt
*Scored 4 extra points
*Intercepted 3 passes, 1 of them for a 5th touchdown

In the closing moments, Fritz Crisler pulled Harmon from the game and 70,000 Buckeye fans actually gave Tom a standing ovation. For OSU fans, to give a standing ovation to anyone, other than a Buckeye, is beyond comprehension. But, a Michigan player, is the highest possible tribute. You will never, ever, see it happen today.

This year, the Navy game, a move was started to give a great ovation to the Navy team as a salute to the armed forces. There was dissention. Finally, both teams came out at once .... many OSU fans would not stand and applaud the Navy team.

It is still a great rivalry, somewhat worse back in those days. My Dad talks of going up to Michigan for some games during those years. They would drive just above the Michigan border, stop, park their cars, and rent cars to take them to Ann Arbor. It was not safe having a car with Ohio plates, on game day.
