Although accumulation estimates still were in flux Friday, the likelihood is increasing that Ohio once again will play host to another disruptive snow event in the coming days.
“We don’t make accumulation forecasts more than 48 hours in advance, but this system has the potential to produce more snow,” said Kristen Schepel, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Cleveland.
She meant more than the smaller, but still problematic, snowfalls the area has experienced recently.
“What happens early (today) will be similar to Wednesday morning and Thursday morning,” Schepel said. “Then, on Sunday, we’ll have a system moving in that looks to be more significant than the others over the past week.
“It could start as early as early (this) morning, and it will probably last for the better part of Monday, maybe tapering off Monday night.”
On Friday evening, AccuWeather was predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow for Newark during that period. The website Weather Underground was making a prediction of 8 to 12 inches.
The National Weather Service said that, in Ohio, the heaviest snow should fall in a band from Marion to Cleveland.
