My car in the late 50's when I was working at the Primma Donna in Reno, sitting box, wearing Louis Roth suits, alligator low cuts, and wearing that 33 diamond watch. I was "livin large." A 1957 Crown Imperial.
A car salesman from Reno used to each lunch frequently at the Primm and we got to know him a bit because of that. I had a 1957 Studebaker Hawk that I loved, No speed limit in Nevada in those days and that Studebaker was great on the highway. I think the speedometer went to 150. I had it painted white and had red leather interior put in.
The salesman had seen it and liked it. He came in one day and mentioned this Imperial he had. I think it had 4000 miles on it. Someone drove the owner somewhere, once a week or so, other than that, very little use. And, she bought a new one each year, then traded it in on a new one. This one she had just traded in. And, he had someone who had seen my Studebaker and wanted one like it. That afternoon, thanks to my IS, I owned the Imperial. Every kid needed one. As I recall, no gear shift of any kind, push buttons. The IS is my self diagnosis, Impulsive Spendthrift.
